So, first, here is a picture that helps to understand what i mean.
http://i50.tinypic.com/2ni0jf4.png As you can see, i allocated my points a little badly, i took 4 extra intelligence nodes (cicled in red) instead of going the other way with only 2 nodes (circled in yellow). Of course, as long as everything still links back to your starting point you can refund whatever you like. On my witch I took both routes out, and then refunded the left side once I went through the middle and connected the two that way.
