Multistrike should be a quest reward
|
Multistrike is used in a lot of melee builds. Since it's just a random drop though, the demand keeps the price higher than other essential support gems such as fork, lmp, and faster casting.
Who making multistrike a quest reward helps: melee characters now and the millions of melee characters that will be made in the future. Who it hurts: The 2 people who have their entire fortune invested in multistrike gems(if there are any). Making multistrike a quest reward will only make PoE better. (and i'm not the 1 of "2 people invested in MS" :D ) It's because after making MS quest reward there will be tons of QQ threads like "make X quest reward gem because IT'S PART OF THE BUILDS" (stupid reason btw. If this is the part of the build - it needs to be "obtainable", not "given by childish demand". That's the interest of making builds) Remember, suffering is convenient.
That is why many people prefer it. Happiness requires effort. |

-1 - What HarukaTeno said.
Whats with the "gimme gimme gimme" attitude? "Duuh, my build requires a unique worth 60 exalted, therefor I should get 60 exalted as a quest reward, duuuuuuuuuuh....." "Please feel free to report any players you see attempting to acquire/sell items in trade chat." - Bex_GGG

Then remove Gems from quest rewards, and make gems crafteable :P
No more childish demands. Make quest rewards offer Items or Currency. Forum Warrior - Why are you creating a thread about this subject? Use Search!
Also Forum Warrior - Nice necro. |

" To be fair, thats a hot topic in itself. I don't think the 3-6 chaos of multistrike is too expensive, but items like shav that create unique situations and are super high level and rare, really are against what the design philosophy tends to be otherwise. Shavs should have been a low level unique that drops a lot with lower ES, so that if you want to take advantage of a low life ES build you can, but you also don't get as massive an advantage as you do now. |

There's a running theme that some of the best gems are generally not class rewards. GMP, Chain, Concentrated Effect... and Multistrike. I personally think that's a good thing; I think making them all quest rewards is a little like having a trading card game without any good rares.
That's a -1 by the way. When Stephen Colbert was killed by HYDRA's Project Insight in 2014, the comedy world lost a hero. Since his life model decoy isn't up to the task, please do not mistake my performance as political discussion. I'm just doing what Steve would have wanted.

" Nobody really needs GMP or Chain though - a projectile build can do just fine with LMP and Fork. Conc Effect is debatable, as it has no real substitutes, but generally the builds that use it are very powerful to start with, so it ends up being overkill. Multistrike *is* arguably make-or-break for a lot of melee builds though ('true melee', not OP stuff like Cleave), because in high-level content, you need to hit hard and fast in melee before the mobs clobber you. (There are other make-or-break supports for certain builds that are not quest rewards, but they are generally a lot more niche, the classic example being Elemental Proliferation.) Not sure where I stand on this. I think if it is made a quest reward, it should be in Merciless only. Last edited by Incompetent#3573 on Aug 12, 2013, 9:09:31 AM

-1!!! All the way!
Multistrike is one of the most overrated Gems in all of PoE like Chain was before. There are A FEW builds which "need" that Gem. But most of the builds MS is used for don't rely on MS or even suck with MS like Cleave does! :D In my opinion IR + IQ should be obtainable earlier, as they can be used at Level 24. What about monster golf? Hit it HARD - go find it - Hit it hard again :D

"Except it isn't, because it doesn't do that much more than other supports. Max effect: 2.07 (more attack speed) * 0.64 (36% less damage) = 32% more damage. Up to 57% increased melee physical, which varies and depends on your passive tree up until that point; if you already have 200% IMPD, that's the equivalent of 19% more. 1.19 * 1.32 = 57%. You could argue that WED is more important when it comes to hitting hard. I think the real reason it's popular is because it has a stealthily low effect on mana cost per second: 1.8 * 2.07 / 3 = 1.24. That's a very good bargain on value, considering the damage it adds. Players with resource consumption issues fall in love and begin to believe they can't live without it; but there is more than one way to fix resource issues.
