Dual wielding claw block ranger build - plz help me with it!
Hi, all.
I am done with ranged weapon and shield after playing several builds with them. Now I am trying to make out a dual wielding claw ranger, who is characterized with high life leech, high block chance thus high survivability. The bringer of rain and The anvil unique amulate will be used for following reaons: 1. I found a BOR several days ago and I want to put it in use. 2. I do not have an extra 5L for this char, so use BOR. 3. I do not have to invest too many dmg nodes since BOR is naturally a 7L (They said blind is amazing). 4. BOR provides 15% block chance. 5. The anvil provides 10% block chance and decent armor. 6. This build never lacks attack speed but is short of mana, so the anvil serves perfectly. Block Being dual wielding is natrually granted with 15% base block, we get 32% from the tree and 25% from gear so it will finally be 72%, seems decent without any shields. Life&res&armour I did not do the math but it will be a bit more than 100% more life from the tree, 1.5% life regen, also some flat life. res: all+15. Res might be the biggest problem in this build, I plan to discard maligaro and have some res back by using rare gloves. It is also very hard to get chaos resistance. No armour node taken, only like 30% ev increase working with possible ev on gear and grace. Will need to rely on determination/endurence charge/flask. Life and mana leech Tons of leech from claws and related talents. Also benefit from the anvil (+life when block). No mana leech, will use mana leech gem on BOR. Also benefit from the anvil (+mana when block) Damage It is based on cirt. Physical damage increase: 154% (str not included) Attack speed increase: 85% (75% with the anvil) Accuracy rating increase: 72% (dex not included) Critical chance increase: 175% Critical Multiplier increase:100% I will have 3+3(tree)+1(bandit)=7 fenzy charge gained by frenzy, which means some extra ias and damage. The gem will be linked with: increased critical damage (or additional accucracy, not so sure how to caculate accuracy), melee splash and mana leech. Several things to worry about: 1.poor resist 2.not enough life. may get one shot- - 3.goodbye iir/iiq 4.REFLECT. May have to avoid relfect maps. sole reflect mob packs might be fine with granite flasks. Here is the spec:

I am also considering just use frenzy to get charges and fight with dual strike.
Maybe it is just a bit annoying... Truely inconvenient without CI and blood rage...while its already enough CI in this world: ) IGN: MidNightess

Really not enough crit.
There's a guide linked in my signature for dual claws. Although it doesn't go crit, it does pass by many crit nodes so you can modify it accordingly. How to make a build: http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/510084

" Maybe you are right. I havent got a chance to look into your build carefully yet after checking my own CI crit shadow I found the crit is insufficient. The reason why I choose to take some crit nodes is that I think the dmg may not decent enough and it is really a waste for not go into any crit without taking resolute technique. I was thinking about a 'balance' between crit and non-crit-- I do not rely on crit but they may get me extra dmg and safety. I am not sure it will work since everybody either go crazy crit or RT. So as a claw profession, how would you suggest? Discard crit for dmg nodes? or dump dmg nodes for crit? or I should keep trying my theory? I am still leveling my char and I would not go into crit until I feel it is the right time. Maybe I feel good without them then I will dump them and get more dmg/survival nodes. Thank you very much for the reply. IGN: MidNightess Last edited by Stockpiles#0409 on Aug 3, 2013, 1:52:09 PM

what about going acrobatics/phase acrobatics with projectile dodge instead of unwavering stance? i dunno if it's enough defense but i've always wanted to see acrobatics being viable.

Reason I choose to not go crit is because I prefer having sustained damage. For the amount of investment into crit nodes, I can get easily over 100% increased damage, or a lot of IAS, rather than crit. Assuming that survivability is non-negotiable. Plus local crit% on weapon is very big for phys crit builds, and it becomes even harder to find such weapon with good pDPS also.
As it is, with a pair of claws that have ~7% crit, I'm averaging one crit in 14 hits or so. It happens. Also, with a Rain you can make over 60% dual wield block with minimal effort. And acrobatics is viable. How to make a build: http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/510084 Current guides: N/A Last edited by Kirielis#6293 on Aug 4, 2013, 2:33:14 AM

Some Update:
I just hit 70 and some modifications have been made to the whole build. 1.I give up the anvil atm and use a ir/iq/res ammy to compensate the terrible insufficiency of mf and res. However, I still regard the anvil as a doable choice and may try it out whenver I get more res from rings/belt/claws. 2.I use the blood dance to gain frenzy charge and use frenzy to keep charges when fighting boss. The 1% Hp reg/charge provides very important survivability since I neither go vaal pact nor using blood seeker. The drawback is no res on it. 3.I use dual strike since it is the only skill working with dual (another is cleave but a sword/axe is required)and claws. Frenzy is much too mana intensive and it only takes advantage of the inherent 10% asp when dual wielding. You hit alternatively with each weapon. 4.I spent 2ex and 8gcp to get a 270 pdps and a 260 pdps claw which result in a ~14k dps with 7frenzy charges atm. I did not go crit at last. Skill link is: multistrike-melee splash-dual strike-mana leech on the bringer of rain. 5.I use the blood magic mask trick to run Grace, wrath and anger on HP. After GGG fix this bug I think I would have to give up anger since it is too hard to get even 2 red sockets on claws (blood magic + anger?). I run determination, hatred and purity on mana and I have like 76 mana left, when fighting boss I may have to use mana pot. 6.Over all it works fine now, no worry on chaos dmg even with -60 chaos res, high leech, high hp reg, decent block (also some endurance charges from BOR), like 8k armour with iron reflex, 2.7k hp, clean up to 68 map very fast and safe by far. 7.Biggest drawback is desync and the shitty appearance of the bringer of rain... but sometimes even desync can not kill me: ) IGN: MidNightess
