Idea to counter glass cannon build instead of reflect damage.
Glass cannon build is bad for game balance. So current PoE has strong reflected damage to counter such glass cannon build. But it is ugly solution. Currently, reflected damage constitutes majority of damage and threat players take, compared with other damage from the monster themselves. Excessive reflected damage creates as bad imbalance problem as it solves glass cannon problem. This creates various imbalances and distorts character building.
One simple solution is reducing the ratio of reflected damage and boosting various other damages from the monster like physical and elemental damages, except chaos damage which is excessive already. But this requires major re-work on game balance. So I suggest alternative idea. Reducing damage reflection ratio is simple. Difficult part is increasing other damages and threat. So I suggest to reduce effectiveness of armor and elemental resist. Current armor, ES and resist will retain same numerical value as before. But their effectiveness formula will be tweaked to reduce their effectiveness considerably. So that glass cannon can not survive without heavy investment on armor and resist. " I think there should be a penalty for playing tanky. A mob that hits for a disproportionate amount of damage relative to your health/es. Basically, the more defenses you have, the more damage you take. So if you have 1k health you might take 2x damage but at 2k health you take 5x damage. You played tank, you pay the price as easy as it gets. The reason people don't like reflect is because it's a punishment for getting damage. I related it to be punished for 'being too tanky'. Or being punished for 'summoning too many minions'. Or maybe you should be punished for having too much intelligence. Heck, we could even say you get punished for having too high a level. I really dont come across reflect that much. Every character/build should have a weakness that requires skill to protect against. Your idea would make ranged elemental characters even more powerful, since they already dont have to worry about most mobs. So dischargers need to watch for reflect and cant just roll through entire maps in their sleep...too bad.
