Demon Hunter more fun than ranger..

For the mobility alone.

Has anyone been able to recreate the speed and ferocity of a dh on the ranger here? It doesn't seem like there are as many cool evasive skills.
damage evasion is done by "skill".. ie: moving your character out of the way.

There are a couple of ways to evade damage based on the skill tree, however.

Acrobatics: 20% to dodge chance, removes armor and shield

Phase Acrobatics: 20% to dodge spells (an additional 4x 1% chance to dodge attacks on the way)

Arrow Dodging: 50% chance to dodge projectiles (arrows and some spells are considered projectiles)

Or, if you want a more tank build:

Iron reflexes and Unwavering Stance, and there are a stun of nodes that give + armor as well.

For speed, you will need Celerity, %movement speed gear, and there is one that is not so good, Armour Master (removes movement penalties from armor)

Follow this up with the skill gem phase run, and there you go, mega-mobility.

The ranger class is more of a kiting class in PoE, whereas in D3, the DH is more of a "tank and dps before you die" class.

I agree that inPoE rangers can evade, but evading here involves running back a few squares.. not as much fun as using vault.. or using smoke screen to throw them off for a second.

I played hardcore dh and so I could never tank until you die hehe.. had to keep moving. Its a similar strategy here it seems though its just not as dynamic.

Still.. I'm not very high level yet so I havent explored all the possibilities. I really like speed and dynamic combat.

I think PoE is really promising.. and you know, I'm playing PoE right now and not D3 so that says something, but I think more dynamic combat, it least visually speaking, I think will be important for making this a great game, although they're already well on their way where it counts the most.
At the higher levels the combat is both much faster paced as well as more dynamic.

If you're looking for movement-displacement skills then I would suggest that you experiment with skill such as Whirling Blades, Flicker Strike, and that teleport skill that I can never remember the name of... Lightning Warp.

I kinda get what OP means.... like a get-out-of-jail-free spell where you can escape from near death and run away. For the spells you suggested, only lightning warp works with a bow and the casting time is just too long. Also, I have been trying to use phase run but, again, the casting time makes it more of a utility skill rather than a defensive skill.

I think a cool way to do it would be to have a bow attack that knocks yourself back (and can do more damage or whatever to make sense).
I know that u can dodge things without moving but if u are a bow ranger u dont have any movement skill like vault (u wouldnt like to see a smoke screen) i think it would be fun like whirling blades (little less range) with something like phase run for range, dont u think?
You could get something like vault.. by getting cast speed nodes and faster casting L20, by using Lightning warp -> phase run. With just faster casting L16, I can use phase run to get out of hairy situations, and that is without any cast speed nodes.
I think a Ranger and a Demon Hunter are two separate classes. PoE is not a Diablo 3 clone. It is a Diablo 2 clone and a fine one at that. Demon Hunter was a dumbed down glass cannon class, a new school new gen gamer would like. Most of us here are pretty old school i imagine but i may be wrong. That being said - a Ranger is not a Demon Hunter and a comparison simply does not require merit.

Like the posts above me - Phase Run, Lightning Warp, Whirling Blades, clicking to move out of the way - all viable ways to dodge and escape attacks.

What if you're up against skeleton archers with physical/elemental reflect and you suddenly find yourself at low low hp without any escape method? I mean, yea I can carefully read every rare mobs' affixes first but there isn't really any reaction-based method for dodging attacks. Whirling blades is actually fine but you can't use it with a bow.

Yeah i understand the need for a get out of jail free ability but this only comes into light because of the Demon Hunter class in D3. If D3 never existed or was not the game it is today i think this discussion would be moot. Death in this game is truly punishing above 60 lol

The game is still in beta so hopefully we will see a lot of exciting changes if need be and of course more balancing =)
