Transformers: Fall of Cybertron - awesome, yet doomed to be ignored?
I still remember when I first played Transformers: War For Cybertron a few years ago. Back then there hadn't been many good Transformers-games, to say the least, and yes, I was skeptical. But what I found was one of the best action-games I have pleyed in a very long time, both offline and online. We're talking three-player co-op online and offline, the usual deathmatch stuff, character customization online and, not the least, near perfect gameplay. The only problem? Hardly anyone gave it a chance, and while it did get a pretty good DLC down the line, the online community was long dead before then.
And now we have a sequel. Transformers: Fall of Cyberton. I played the demo on my PS3 (the full game isn't out until Friday), and while the co-op is gone, the rest of the game is somehow even better than the first one. The story missions are awesome, as always, and the multiplayer is excellent. For the first time in years, I'm actually really looking forward to a game. (PoE doesn't count as a) I had barely heard about when I played it, and b) I can play it whenever I want, as I have a beta key.) There really isn't much to say about Transformers: Fall of Cybertron, other than it's really, really good. I'm writing this here because the one thing it lacks is popularity and hype. It's the freakin' Transformers we're talking about, after all. And no, not the Michael Bay scrapmetal. We're taling old-school stuff. So old-school they haven't even left Cybertron (yet? If we had the War, followed by the Fall, where will the third game place? Hm...) So I guess I'm asking you that if you like Transformers, multiplayer and/or awesome action games, please give it a shot. The demo's out, so it won't hurt, right? Please don't let this game too be forgotten. :/ Edit: Look at it this way. Battlefiend and Call of Duty have their moments, but in those games, can you run down a corrior shooting at someone, jump out a window, transform into a fight plane in mid-air, use afterburner to speed through the level, have a dogfight with another fighter plane, fly through a window, land as a robot and keep fighting in a single, seemless, non-scripted sequense? You can in Fall of Cybertron. And how can that be anything but awesome? ;) "And that's how you die properly, sailor boy." (The Witch) Last edited by ExileDude#1743 on Aug 22, 2012, 6:36:05 AM

I've been sceptical about anything transformers in recent years. How much control do you have over the transforming? Is it at will all the time or are you forced to change in/out? I'll be giving the demo a whirl at some stage

On the PS3, you transform by clicking L3. That's it. You can transform quite literally whenever you want. I haven't played the full game yet, so there *might* be a few missions there where you can't transform at will. But other than that, you transform whenever you want, both in single-player and multiplayer. :)

" And that's another thing. Transformers: War for Cyberon and Fall of Cybertron has nothing to do with the movies. The story takes place back on Cybertron (their home planet) during a civil war that will end with the robots leaving it. What this means is two things: 1. The robots doesn't look anything like they do in the recent movies. They look far more old-school than that. :) 2. As we all know, they didn't transform into earthly stuff like trucks and cars until they reached Earth, so this time we're talking hovercars and weird planet. That again means the physics can seem a bit strange (cars flying sideways, etc), but it fits the gameplay and actually makes it much better. The only flaw I can see about Fall of Cybertron is that they have removed the co-op from the stories, but then again that means they can create missions based entirely on the character you'll be playing. (unlike War, you can't choose who to play in the story this time. But don't worry, you'll get your fair share of variation.) But personally, as much as I loved the story-mode in War, I think the real meat is in multiplayer. As long as people actually gives the game a chance, that is. ;) "And that's how you die properly, sailor boy."

Bumping this a bit just to remind everyone that this fantastic game is out today. Only one hour thirty minutes until I can go to the stores and buy it. I can't wait! :D
Edit: Played it. Looooved it. Highly recommend it. Put it this way: - People were skeptical to superhero-games and games based on movie franchies. Then we got Batman: Arkham Asylum. - People were skeptical to games with Spider-man, and for good reason. Then we got the 'The Amazing Spider-man' game. It rocked. - People have been skeptical to games based on other superheroes. Then we got Captain America: Super Soldier. Yes, it's pretty much Cap America: Arkham Asylum, but since when was that a bad thing? - People were skeptical to Transformers-games. Then we got Transformers: War For Cybertron. It rocked. People are still skeptical to Transformers, and now we have Transformers: Fall of Cybertron. Do yourself a favor and try it. You won't regret it. ;) (well, some might, but most action-fans will love it.) "And that's how you die properly, sailor boy." (The Witch) Last edited by ExileDude#1743 on Aug 25, 2012, 10:13:01 PM
