Button to force character to "hold position"
When I'm bleeding and I'm in hardcore and I think I need to stop immediately - I guess I'm just used to this from playing Starcraft too much - but it would be lovely if you could tie "H" or some similar key to forcibly stopping your character in place.

Shift...?

I believe he wants a key that allows him to stop running. Shift currently only holds your character in place, but if you have already clicked somewhere he will keep running even if you click shift half-way to the destination.
It's a common feature in Diablo 3 and Diablo 2 that hasn't been implemented yet on PoE, but has been asked for many times and i'm sure GGG will implement once they begin to polish the game off. :) I always thought the future depended on the choices you made.

If you're holding click to move or clicking often to move, then also holding shift WILL make you stop moving. I use this all the time >__>

I don't get it. if you are not attacking, you can click on your character. if you are attacking you push shift.
If you don't feel like clicking on your character, you can just push shift and attack. |

If I click to move to X and I receive the bleed debuff while running, in order to stop myself from running (which is basically a death sentence late game as a CI Shadow with no armor) I need to click somewhere near my rapidly-moving character to cause them to halt. The time it takes to do this is roughly 2-3 seconds, by which, the debuff is already mostly over and I've probably lost 30-50% of my ES depending upon the monster that inflicted bleed.
It is much faster to press a known key like H, to stop your character dead wherever they were standing at the time you pressed it. My Keystone Ideas: http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/744282 Last edited by anubite#0701 on Aug 24, 2012, 12:40:17 PM

I prefer if we'd have to practice our mouse micro. As a competitive game, I really like when people have less control over their character while those who have trained it bare better. That would of course still be the coincidence with a "stop walking"-button, but it would still be to make it lesser mouse heavy.

It's really simple to solve this: Click to move, then click behind the character to stop moving. You'll be running backwarsd, yes, but isn't the whole point to get away from enemies? It takes skill, yes, but again, isn't that the whole point? I don't want a game everyone can finish. I want a game that tailors you through the early stages and lets everyone have fun, but also one where few people have change to finish the hardest dififculty. Most games today can be played on autopilost. Where's the fun in that?

" I agree, people tends to whine too much these days. Micro is most certainly a feature that makes the game interesting, just like in most RTS-games. And guys, I have a lesson for you: Don't move with your cursor too long away from your character. When I'm moving, I have my cursor right in front of the char, so when I stop clicking, I almost immediately stops. Danskere: PM mig, hvis I har brug for en guild. How in gods name do you keep your cursor near your character while running away? If anything so much as brushes up against your cursor when you click, and you're wielding a ranged weapon, you'll stop and fire. In order to micro ranged characters that are inflicted with bleed, you need to put your cursor far away from the action and order the character to run in that direction, then turn and fire to stop running. At no point can you really keep your cursor close to your character.
Thus, when you are bleeding and you do want to stop, your cursor is too far away and even if you're fairly dextrous it's quite a challenge to react in time to stop, let alone click only once with your twitch finger and click in a space extremely close to your character. This is even harder if you have lots of +movement speed. Not all of us are running no life kripp build here :) My Keystone Ideas: http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/744282 Last edited by anubite#0701 on Aug 26, 2012, 1:03:58 AM
