Extremely Slow Download

So, two months ago I was updating PoE and suddenly the update stopped. Not stopped dead, but close to it, like how you run over a rattlesnake and the *ucker is still trying to crawl across the road. You know it's dead, but it doesn't know it's dead. Anyways, I stopped playing, then, today, decided to try again. I deleted the game, redownloaded it, and lo/behold, after the traditional 30minutes of checking resources, I get dead rattlesnake download speeds...

Now, I've managed to keep myself busy these last few months by laying on my couch and counting all the specks in my drop ceiling, but I'm super close to finishing and I want to play PoE again. Prior to dead rattlesnake downloads I have 500kb/morethan500kb download speeds... what happened?

Did PoE exile me?

Did my ISP decide after I finally found something interesting to fill up the gigantic gaping hole in my soul that I was too happy with it and I should be cursed with boredom forever?

Am I in hell?

Please help... I have 6.28GB of data to download, and I'm looking at 5.08MB completed after 2 hours... Somebody please... save me...
If you haven't done anything strange like changed to mobile broadband or anything, I would suggest trying to patch via a VPN. Hopefully it will get around whatever is throttling your download. I can't think of a reason for the server to be restricting you to such a slow speed, and I'm sure we would have had other users talking about it if it was.

Have a look at this thread for more VPN info: http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/103073/highligh

Let me know how this goes.
So, downloaded VPNbook, then got to this point:

error: couldn't connect to server while downloading
http://patch204.pathofexile.com:8095/patch/0.11.2.5/art/models/terrain/beach/questlocations/tgms/shipwreck_quest_v01_01_c13r2.tgm

So I tried to open up this link:

http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/15283

Nothing... Wouldn't open it. Tried other browsers, nothing. My connection to the internet was gone! So I tried disconnecting from tcp443 and connectiong to tcp80...

Again, nothing, except this time I couldn't even connect to VPN.

Restarted computer, was able to connect to internet again, but now when I try to connect to VPN I get this:

Hey there,

Looking at this here:
No server certificate verification method has been enabled. See http://openvpn.net/howto.html#mitm for more info.

You may need to setup the cert again.

Also, I'd recommend changing your DNS to Google's just to be safe: 8.8.8.8 / 8.8.4.4

Let me know if you need help with doing this! :)
If it involves doing anything technical with any program, then yes, I am in dire need of assistance.

Did you do this part of the VPN process:
3) You now need to download a VPN Certificate file:
UDP & TCP: http://www.vpnbook.com/free-openvpn-account/VPNBook.com-OpenVPN-Euro1.zip

4) Unzip the certificate files and place the contents in the OpenVPN directory "Config" folder (example: "C:\Program Files\OpenVPN\Config")

?

If you like, we can do this via email to make things go along quicker, drop us an email at support@grindinggear.com if you wish :)
I copied the zipfile to the Config folder and extracted it there, then deleted the zip file.

I changed my DNS to google's public domain.

I have no idea what I'm doing, but I figure it's alot like baking a cake. All I have to do is follow directions and things will turn out perfectly :D

This is easier than using my email. I don't want to scan through 400 adultfriendfinder/gold4you/youhaveamessagefromjessica emails to locate the one from a TripG.

I finally connected to VPN again, but then PoE Downloader told me to phockoff (couldn't connect to server), so now I've changed... PHOCK YESSSSSS!!!!

I just checked it... after switching DSNs and using VPN I've finally managed decent download speeds.

Thank you Henry_G3. I will name one of my children I'm not putting up for adoption after you.
Actually... it's pretty spazzy... 0kb-250kb... No matter, in a day and a half I can finally play PoE again.

Hey there,

Glad to hear it's working, it's a shame the speeds aren't stable.
Better late than never I suppose :)

No, thank you!
That made my night, cheers haha :)
Oh snap, you guys are in pretty much the same time dimension as me! Represent 912! It's late as phock out here. Curfew sucks!
