How hard is it to get a 6L?

Hey I'm just curious about what I should expect when attempting to link items. This is my first attempt at crafting and so far I've spent 450 jewelers trying to get 6 sockets on my item before I attempt to 5 or 6 link it. Are there things I can do to improve my chances etc? Thanks for any info!

" The exact number isn't really known for sure and I'm pretty sure it's not quite THAT high, but yeah it's very rare and wouldn't hurt to plan on needing to use that many in order to have a decent chance at it. As for what you can do to improve your odds, I believe the only way to do so is using whetstones and armourer's scraps to max out the quality on the item. This quality bonus will then be consumed each time you try to relink the sockets but will give higher chances of a better result. Since you'd need to reapply the quality bonus each time though, this may not be worth it since even with this bonus, a 6L will still be very rare. |

Very hard. Aim for a 5L, be happy if you get a 6L before you get a 5L.

Thank you for all of the replys, I will definitely just shoot for a 5L I'm not rich enough to do 6.
Is it worth it to add 1% of quality then link and repeat? Going to 20% burns through my scraps but maybe the 1% quality is increasing my chances a bit. Also would it be worth it to make my item 6 sockets before attempting to 5 link it, currently it is 5 sockets. IGN: StorminRH

i have heard that it is better to 6 socket first, because you have 2 separate rolls for 5 link. and also the added benefit of 6 linking.

i spent around 12+ exalts and every single fusing i found in a 2 week span and never got a 6L and eventually rage quit and sold my item.

trick is to do it without hoping for one. be sure its the ultimate last upgrade and u try it for weeks, just bbecause there is nothing other to do. i had the luck twice of 6 linking an item. the first took me 2 months of grinding, but i expected it in an year. so from this point of view i was lucky ;).
