Hardcoded Droptables?
Hey guys,
just asking myself whether there are hardcoded droptables in this game, like it is in D2. So that there are special mobs which can drop special gear. Why I am asking is, such a system is just awesome, because one can farm in a special direction, instead of finding good other items, but has to trade them in. Furthermore one always has an inducement to go back to Act 1 for example, to a special place, instead of just killing the ultra endboss. So are there hardcoded droptables in this game? If not, are they planned? If not again, why not, has there been an explanation by the DEVs? Greetings, Wulf Last edited by WUlf1337#0866 on Aug 16, 2012, 5:43:20 AM

" Only thing i can think of are some uniques that drop at certain map level. No food in fridge... Beer it is.

The philosophy of the game is any monster can drop anthing, in term of currency, from wisdom all the way up to mirror. In term of item, from the Minor mana flask up to 6 linked armour (up to the lvl of the mobs you're killing of course).
GGG went out of their way to allow maps to drop in all of act 2 merciless just because of this philosophy. However it would be interesting if certain monster or zones have a higher chance to drop certain things. Unviable build tester.

Well you are statistically more likely to get certain uniques by fighting monsters just above the base level of the item that the unique is based on, but if they are too low level, the ilvl of the item might mean that you can't get the maximum number of sockets available for the item type.
For instance you're much more likely to get a Silverbranch from the normal terraces than you are from the merciless pyramid, but the one that drops in the normal terraces will not be able to get six sockets. That probably doesn't matter much for a Silverbranch, since by the time a character was ready to use a six socket bow, they'd want something with better damage than a Silverbranch. It probably does matter in some cases though. Last edited by Malice#2426 on Aug 16, 2012, 6:50:40 AM

" This is what i ment. For example in Diablo 2, if one wanted a rainbowfacet you would go and farm Nhilatak, instead of doing Baal runs. And one rly did this. So as is said: You are more likely to visit more than only one/only a few places, to farm the thing u like. " Well, that is somehow the basic of every Hack 'n Slay. So to say: The more diffcult it gets, the better rewards you have. And this is good as it is. Hardcoded Droptables will be an addition to that system, and in my op. an usefull one. Furthermore there would only be very few of such tables, for a few (not all) unique Monsters, which can always be found at the same location. (Don't get me wrong: I dont want a 2nd Diablo 2, but this system just makes sense and I didn't realise how good it is and how one can miss it, until I played D3). "This is wrong, Uniques have the exact same drop chance no matter the level, as long as the level fits the itemlevel requirement of the unique. | |
Just give it a little push, cause i wanna know, wether such tables are planned or have been refused by the Devs ;)

So noone knows whether such thing is at least planned or under discussion?

" Yes but how often do you see a crude bow drop at high levels? Not very often. You're less likely to get a Silverbranch at high levels because the base item drops less frequently. |
