Die during boss = loss?

If you die during a boss fight and not happen to be back at the boss before it dies but your party kills it, you do not get anything for it.

Why?

The loot is there, you participated in it. I do not know why GGG punishes melee/tanks. We're destined to die during a team fight and yet we do not get the quest done if the boss dies just so happen if you're not back again.

They really need to fix this. Another reason to not go into a party.

Why would you be destined to die?!

If you can solo the boss and survive you should be able to do the same in party. You go into party to have more fun and get better loot.

As for not getting the quest reward, I agree with you. It is probably a protection so people don't join parties and stay in town while the party kills the boss and you get a quest done. People would abuse this like crazy in HC to get their glass cannon characters through tough fights.

Maybe another solution can be found.

I think they need to fix if you hit the boss for certain amount or being there for a while.

It happened to me, and have to redo the whole quest again. Worst is, the whole party either leaves you, or they are forced to redo this as well.
Because you're tanking. You're the only one getting hit. And no, it isn't the same. Enemies have much more HP.

Party is never forced to do it again with you. Never.
But if you die your party can make tp and let you get back in few seconds. Only bad parties and weaklings are punished, I think it is intended mechanic.

Also if a boss managed to kill you then he won the fight and it is only fair that there are consequences.

If you've so much of a problem to tank the boss just place a portal before you engage the boss, problem solved. If you don't die when the boss is at really really low HP of course, but if else your back in a few seconds with the portal.
And you really shouldn't be destined to die, it's not that hard to run away from the boss a few secs and use pots to regen...

Then when your HP gets low - heal? I don't see why you are forced to die, that just sounds like a poor player choice.

Don't get me wrong, I do think that if you are in a party and it kills a boss you should get reward/credit for it even if in town, I just think your logic of 'destined to die' is off. If that was the case, then no tanks would ever play in groups in hardcore.
If your party had any sense, they would wait for you. One of your party members is at fault for making such an obvious mistake, a mistake they will likely only make once each...

An easy solution for tanks is to just NOT FIGHT. If you call yourself a tank/melee and you CANT TANK, then why bother even getting hit? But really, you should be able to die & come back and if that is not happening blame your party.
Is it only for me confusing to read something like "tank" in an ARPG?
How about moving away from the boss before you die?

Other then that, I agree with some of the others. The party should wait and make a portal for you.

I don't disagree with what most are saying however as OP has asked WHY does it not give you credit?

If I can be in a party, hit the boss once (maybe none?) and then get credit for the boss dieing, why would someone who did significant damage but dies, without returning in time not get credit? If you remain dead without releasing do you get credit? So if the boss is low HP and you die, just stay dead? (that would be an easy solution IMO, your own fault if you release)
