I haven't had a need to be sneaky just yet, but I'm sure once I figure out the game a bit more I'll be more inclined to start old tricks again. After all, we are exiles just trying to survive, eh? Scams are more fun when they take a lot of planning and essentially trick others into giving you things while not misrepresenting yourself as someone other than another player.

Oldest trick in the book:
Guy 1: "Looking for (seemingly not-too-common, shitty item)! trading (seemingly disproportionately high valued item) for it!"

Guy 2: "Selling (seemingly not-too-common, shitty item) for (seemingly disproportionately high value item that is slightly lower than what Guy 1 is offering.

Mark buys from Guy 2. Guy 1 never responds to Mark's whispers. Guy 1 is Guy 2. Watch out for that one.


A little on/off topic, but it also seems a lot of gamers these days don't have necessary negotiation skills and/or don't know what scamming actually is. The below is my favorite thing to do in the world and I get at least 1 whisper a day from some trade chat white knight telling me to stop scamming.

Me: "Selling (Chroms/Fusings/Alts/Chaos) for (double the normally accepted value)!"
Mark: "Hi, I don't haggle and need those NOW. Shut up and take my orbs!"

I feel for ya OP, but it's a lesson learned. You're going to have to do the upfront payment thing from now on to protect your hustle.

Having a reputation is impossible because of the shamming rules. The shaming rules makes a pug life even harder. But this not being an MMO we don't have to worry about it as much. I used to have a blacklist for my guild in Lineage 2 and WOW but for this game it seems like you just need a few good friends and your set.
