Best way to get Identification scrolls?

So I've got hardcore characters and I need a few thousand scrolls. I'm doing Merveil runs and I'm juggling about 15 yellows every minute and 15 seconds. Is it best to just sell some of them for transmutations or should I try to buy scrolls/transmutations in trade? So in hardcore, does anyone know what the exchange rate between, say, chaos orbs and transmutations?

Buy from other players.
I dont knwo about currency rates in HC but in SC you get 200 Scrolls for a chaos ...

Aside from trade, you could also farm white items.

That would be painful, though.

Best place to do that would probably be ledge as it has a waypoint close to either end and you wouldn't be wasting portal scrolls.

Just alter what you pick up. I pick up belts, flasks, rings and amulets even if white. That keeps me ahead of the wisdom sinks.

Next up from that would be the 1x3 weapons and the 2x2 stuff... but then you start using too many TPs.

Yeah, unfortunately grabbing whites is out of the question because its more efficient just to do a Merveil run in 1 minute and just sell off undesirable yellows, since unidentified yellows give you the equivalent of 1 scroll. The question is whether I should spend some of the "proceeds" from identified yellows (which yield alterations) and use some of those alterations to purchase scrolls.

I use about 40 scrolls in 5-6 minutes, so you see how just picking up whites doesn't really do much good for me since I'd exhaust my supplies so quickly.

We're obviously at different stages of the game. At your stage, it really doesn't matter what you do... you're just trying to min/max a process that doesn't really need it.

There's a few things that can help... getting a portal gem is a big boost. Theres that new ring that pops a wisdom scroll every 30 monsters or so.

every 4 unid yellows will get you a transmute orb and that will get you 4 scrolls.

Is this Normal, Cruel, or Merciless that you are farming him? How many accounts are you using to get those kind of drops in 1min 15sec?

2 Accounts on Cruel. I lost 2 of my best characters like a noob and need new gear. My wife runs the caves and last hits with all the magic find gear and I just show up a second before the last hit on phase 1 and then I grab everything (and bank a little XP). My char has 150 move speed and the right potions to maximize the "muling." It takes two runs to town to grab all of the yellows and I usually can get a few blues before the next merveil kill. It takes an average of a minute and 15 seconds from Merveil kill to Merveil kill. So yeah, we use tons and tons of scrolls.

To be honest, I just don't know whether most people have many scrolls/orbs of transmutations to sell. If they do, I'm calculating whether its cost effective.
