Effective Armour for End Game?

I also run Enfeeble. xD
I don't always use it because I get lazy, unless I know it is a particularly nasty pack.

I know that it is estimated reduction, and that higher physical damage negates more armour, but still, a little excessive.
I am also aware of that, armor = red for many smaller hits from white/blue mobs, while it has a lesser effect on rares/boss's.

I wonder if there's a point at which you can eat a vaals hammer to the face with max fire res and high enough armor.

*edit, merci vaal's hammer.

You wouldn't use AR in that situation, you would use immortal call with max fire res+ ruby flask

Yes there is.

Why didn't you do a search for this information?

Post-0.11 patch I can take Merci Vaal's smash with my lv63 melee toon with shit gear. Have 2.8k life, 14k AR with a granite up, 6 EC, lv10 Enfeeble, 77% fire resist, 35% spell block, not a single expensive item. The smash does roughly 2.2k damage.

How do I know? Because this was supposed to be my Onslaught melee build magnum opus, but Vaal desynced so hard I died before the smash animation even appeared, no chance of properly reacting. Imagine my pain when I went back to test it on SC and realized I could actually tank it all day as long as my granites were charged. ;_;

Desync + turbo = uncool.
<Tyrfalger> Exactly, the next act is going outside Sarn and into those wheat fields (see the map) to become a farmer. Then we can spend our days endlessly farming. Wait a minute...
