Item level requirement and drop areas

Quick question about uniques. If a unique requires level 12 to equip does that mean you can only find it on regular mobs of monste level 12+, magic of 11+ and rares of 10+?
Basically I want to know how to determine which uniques might drop in specific areas. TeenageEsthetician

Yes. (Except possibly in some very particular situations, like a unique requiring a level significantly higher than the required level of it's base type, such as with Atziri's Foible)

Actually, Any unique can drop if the bas item for it can drop, example : Atziri's foible requires level 16 to equip but can drop from the begining of the game ( i found this weird but.. ) because the base item Paua amulet can drop everywhere http://en.pathofexilewiki.com/wiki/Atziri%27s_Foible http://en.pathofexilewiki.com/wiki/Paua_Amulet ( no level required ) Anarchy/Onslaught T-Shirt Owner.

" That is what I had expected (though I've never had one drop so I cannot verify it first-hand). It is a little strange that you could potentially get that awesome of a unique off the very first zombie you kill on the beach for the skill gem, and wouldn't be able to use it until after killing Merveil. When in doubt: look at the base item and base any decision for farming off of that.
