How did you kill the Vaal Oversoul?
Did you portal away during the rumbling/shaking after its death?

no. i waited for a bit after i killed him with my minions. zombies + skeles + a decoy totem for distraction.
active auras were wrath + clarity as seen in the screenshot.
i did portal after a while (> 1 minute) to check it the door opened when i got back.
i didn't portal during the fight.
also the amulet is gone so i don't know if i can repeat the fight.

Well, you will be able to activate the Dark Altar again without the Apex, so you can fight him again (in a new instance) and try again.

Are you using Minion Instability?

ah thats good.
yes i do use minion instability.

i also use necromanic aegis and the shield has a little bit of damage reflection if thats important.

When it died, did it play its normal death animation (stagger then fall over)?

[Edit] Btw, you will not be able to use someone else's portal to the Merciless Twilight Strand.

Unfortunately i can't really say since it was offscreen at the time.

and thanks for the heads up about the portal. i killed it again and this time the door opened.
I made it through to the final overseer room, put the amulet in place and triggered the overseer battle. I was lame and got killed, and did the 'ressurect' option, putting be back in forest camp. I went back through the pyramid levels and back in the the final room.
Problem is that the screen renders, then there is a 5-6 second lag before I can commence play. As soon as the the client is ready, I get a refreshed screen showing I am dead again. It seems that the game/npc is actually attacking, but due to lag, I have no opportunity to respond/move before I am killed. Is there a way to reset back to the start of that final battle or work around the lag?
set a portal to town before summoning and if you die you should summon a new portal before moving while you're safe.
