Good class for first time solo player?
Builds revolve around gear, so if you lack gear as you do in the beginning it's best to go with poison arrow and fire traps plus a totem.
Once you get some currency or find some nice gear then you can get a proper build. IGN Lisandere

None of the builds got nerfed to where you can't solo end game.
People are just being dramatic, they say something isn't viable if it's not the top 1% build. I NEVER plan any of my builds based on unique gear, and can do any build you show me that says they are "required". unique gear is just for the top 1%, but doesn't make or break your character. LA duelist, and spork witches are still OP as fuck, even with the nerfs. Personally this game really isn't hard, you just need to grind if things start getting difficult and wait for that sweet new drop, or build an item to help you overcome it. Personally I have a 700 hitpoint ranger in merciless just beat vaal with 1 death; I been going glass cannon since open beta started, everyone and there mom has been saying only grab life nodes this entire time. I went against the curve, and have had no problem kicking ass. |

Easiest and least expensive class there is is EK marauder tank. pure hp and armor nodes.

" Sweet - good to know. I certainly don't care about minmaxing to be in the top 1% - I just want something solid I can play. Looking over the duelist thread, the changes were overhyped, and the build remains much the same, at least until high levels. Not sure what to do about the ele damage reduction still, but that's something I can worry about later The CI witch, however, seems even more annoyingly gear-dependent. I'll stick with the LA duelist as the main then, transitioning from Poison/burning arrow to LA as gear allows. A few people have mentioned EK Marauders now, and they seem to require a lot less gear than CI spork witches (and are mostly unchanged), so I think I'll drop the witch and take up an EK marauder build. Plus, this lets me play through the game as both a ranged and a melee - definitely a plus. http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/212728 looks like a good place to start, at least until 60ish. Again, much thanks to the helpful people posting later in the thread, giving me at least a decent idea of where to start out such that I won't be completely lost midgame. In no particular order, pointers to a character that works.
- Pick Mauarder - Find a Fireball gem - Take Life, Armor, reduced crit damage nodes, move up the tree for templar Aoe, Life Armor, move grab dual curse and eldrich battery. At this point You'll be about level 60, continue to spec as needed - Use defensive auras determination and purity - Run clarity and discipline for even more mana/regen w/ eldrich - Attach Fireball to Life leech, LMP, concentrated effect, mana leech, faster projectiles, fire penetration. Play around with them and see what you like/how it works with your current gear At end game consdier useing radical differnt combinations and eating 40 regrets at a time to respec to new ideas and improvements, its not unreasonable for a character to do this several times. - cast enduring cry between mob packs for endurance charges that will help make your terrible items still allow you to tank. - use curses like ele weakness, flamability, projectile weakness, see what works. - should have a wand and whatever sheild you want. at end game you can consdier other spells like ethereal knives, or try specing into something weird. |

Before 0.11 I ran a Duelist with a Mace in the main hand and Claw in the offhand. Incredibly difficult to kill due to the life leech on the claw applying to Ground Slam.
Additionally, I stacked attack speed and was able to Leap Slam around faster than I could use a +70% move speed Quicksilver, which made potions easier. I died at level 49 in Hardcore to a Vaal slam, so the issue was my stupidity, not the build itself. Since melee got buffed that build'd be even more powerful, and all you really need for it is a decent mace and any base item offhand claw with +attack speed (Ground Slam doesn't use offhand claw damage, so you could use a claw you find for 20 levels with no issues if it's decent). Was going to have some issues late game when all the claws go from Life Gain on Hit to Life Leech, but the damage buff to melee would make that moot. Here's something I threw together if you want it. |

Maybe you should go back to Diablo 3. Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get me.

I think that dual Spark totem templar is the easiest and safest build right now. In fact pretty much any builds including dual totems is pretty easy as they revolve around you just popping up two things (or three if you are lucky and have the chest unique.)

A lot of misguided folks in this game. That said look over my " Suicide Build ". It meets all your requirements. I can clear the docks in 8 mins in merci and do maps. All in easy to get low end gear. My build will get a new player LOTS of gear to trade and use for alts.\ There are lots of nay sayers in this thread but the Vid shows it all. BTW... The nay sayers just got their up and comins with the HP Nerf. The build is solid but expects you to be able to think. http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/399180/page/1 I'm in my 50's with serious handicaps and I can play like this. A younger player should be able to rock the boat with this build. River THANK YOU GGG for the HP Balance. Folks may actually have to use strategy vs HP now. Best patch EVER. |
