Multiplayer with a friend doesn't work
Hello @all,
my friend and I just downloaded PoE, installed it, went online - but couldn't play together :-( I can write him a message online (invite him to a party), he even accepts it, we get the "okay, yeah, you're in a party together now"-message, but we can't see each other on the map, neither in the town nor anywhere else. What do we do wrong? This can't be any firewall issue or sth. like that or being on different servers (we both choose Europe), because then we wouldn't be able to see each other, would we? I can see many other players, they're in the town with me, too, but not my friend (and he is it with whom I want to play ;-)). Any suggestions or help would be very appreciated. Thanks and greetings! P.S.: If my message is in the wrong forum, please move it and "sorry"! Last edited by diekitty#3875 on Jun 2, 2013, 12:30:22 PM

Once you are grouped, goto the same instance/zone/town by Control Clicking on the map. You will see your names listed per each instance.

If one of you leaves then re-enters town, you will be in the same town.
If not, Ctrl + click on the WP or gate and select the one your friend is in. Party portraits only show when in the same instance, but your social tab will show your party make up. Casually casual. Last edited by TheAnuhart#4741 on Jun 2, 2013, 12:33:41 PM

You two were put in different instances. One thing you can do is leave the area (go to terraces) and then ctrl+click the town and choose the instance your friend is in. If you don't see him in the list, esc and try again.
Thread killer.

Are you in the same difficulty? Perhaps your friend is playing on Merciless and you're only in Normal or something?

Wow guys, you are amazing --> replies in 2 minutes after I wrote my entry! :-D
We will try today evening and I hope your suggestions work! There is no problem with the difficulty, both are normal - still, thanks for that hint. Nevertheless one question remains: Are we the only two people who face this issue? I have found nowhere any entries regarding problems with "finding your multiplayer friends", neither here in the FAQs nor in any other forum.... Very curious... Anyway, we will test and maybe I come back if it still doesn't work. Thanks 'til now! :-) |

I know the problem you're talking of. I think the other guys addressed the issue pretty well. When you click on the waypoint in town (or the entrance to any area), if you instead Ctrl+click the entrance, or the area "node" on the waypoint map, it will bring up a list of instances. It will also list the players in the area so just make sure you choose the instance that has your friend in it :D If it still doesn't work, then something freaky is going on :S
Good luck! I hope it gets fixed! :) :) Last edited by Lolcohol#4777 on Jun 2, 2013, 12:58:59 PM

There's no way to have a party in the very first area, and you're not guaranteed to be in the same town instance. Together I think those cause a lot of confusion, but as soon as you leave the town again, it "just works".

" zoning into areas should put all team members in the same area, afaik. but, just forming the party doesn't switch you into teh same town instance, so you might need to manually choose the same instance like these guys said. if you guys team up, then zone to, like, mud flats, or whatever, and end up in different instances -- that would be unusual. |

Also make sure you both picked the same leagues to play in.
