Overlapping Freezing Pulses
Do they hit an enemy multiple times? It honestly feels that way sometimes (sometimes I see health tick down 3 times).
Or, the damage formula for freezing pulse is just wacky, because sometimes it does MUCH more damage than my fireball close up and other times much less. However, the freezing pulse damage tooltip says "80-120 cold damage" and my fireball says "90-125 fire damage" so is the tooltip for freezing pulse inaccurate |

Freezing pulse deals less and less damage with the distance.

I was wondering this as well. I was fooling around with using greater multiple projectiles on freezing pulse last night and it *seemed* like I was doing massive damage at close range, but it was hard to tell for sure.

Well the more damage at close range - it must be higher than the tooltip then? Does the tooltip describe the "average" damage?
Here's my question: if it says "200 damage" does it mean 400 damage close up and 0 at the edge Or 200 damage close range and it goes to 0 at the edge? Because it seems like the former to me. |

I don't know the exact mechanism, but if it work as Point Blank keystone, it would be something like :
very close 150% close : 150-100% far : 100-0% Last edited by Kissan#7229 on Jul 22, 2012, 1:59:57 PM

I think the formula is linear:
Close: 100% Far: 0% "Increase Projectile Speed" increase the maximum distance. "Multiple Projectile" do x3 70% damage -> 210% damage to close target (if all pulses hit) https://discord.gg/j3p9b9vWjF: The french discord

" This is an extremely old post from when FP was a bit more powerful (the freeze chance has been reduced considerably since then), but it seems to indicate that the freezing chance decreases linearly. I would assume the damage also decreases linearly. So the spell would probably be at or near 50% of its power when it has traveled half of its maximum range. Urist McDwarfy has been happy lately. But it deals more damage than my fireball, even though it shouldn't according to the tooltip (at close range)

Ah, I thought someone had answered this already, but I'll have to chalk another one up for poor reading comprehension.
Yes, overlapping freezing pulses do damage for each freezing pulse projectile that passes through an enemy. So if you're firing 3 FP projectiles that stack nearly on top of each other at a target at point blank range, you're essentially doing nearly 3 times the damage listed in the tooltip. There are other factors, such as resistance of course, but this is the way it is supposed to work. Edit: I think we covered most of it here, even if it wasn't asked for, but the information is also on the wiki: http://en.pathofexilewiki.com/wiki/Freezing_Pulse Urist McDwarfy has been happy lately. i use freezing as my main source of damage and i found that the tool tip for the "dps" is accounted by per wave.
for example i have a greater multi on mine and it put's it's "dps" around 1200 but it's actual damage is around 6000 because it does not count the multiple waves. so take the "dps" and times it by the number of projectiles and that will be your actual dps. (also yes they overlap for combined damage which is easier to do at point blank range) So many build ideas... no time....
