Any resist nodes in the tree (except the max resist nodes down near marauder) are all placeholders until you get better gear. It may take a bit of playing to get there, however. So if you gotta, you gotta. Keep those respect points handy for future upgrades.

In a few cases you will find nodes in the tree that both increase all res and increase damage in some way. These are good.

This is how I see it. Take what you need when you are leveling up. When you have the gear, drop the nodes that you no longer need.
