Loot rolls.

Hey i'm really excited for this game like everyone else, but I keep thinking back to diablo 3's horrible loot system. Does anyone know if good loot will drop more often then 1% of the time?
In Path of Exile, you are bound to find good and bad loot.

Similar to Diablo 3, you are unlikely to find exceptional loot often. You will have to use the currency system to improve your decent loot.

The currency system utilizes items that re-roll or upgrade loot. This allows one to sell and reuse bad/unneeded loot to help make great loot.

Here's a small list of some currency:

Orb of Transmutation: upgrades white loot to magic
Orb of Alteration: re-roll a magic loot mods
Orb of Alchemy: upgrades white loot to rare

SPECIAL NOTE: Uniques here are better compared to Diablo 3, but they are not the best compared to the exceptional rares.

If you don't know, there are three layers one would want to improve in loot.

Quality
(http://en.pathofexilewiki.com/wiki/Quality)
This layer improves base loot stats (ex. weapon is damage and armor is armor, evasion, energy shield and block chance). This extends to flasks and gems (varied in each skill).

Socket
(http://en.pathofexilewiki.com/wiki/Socket#Sockets)
This layer allows more skill and support gems. This apply to weapon and armor loot only. Max is 6 sockets on two-hand weapons and chest armor, the rest is 4 sockets. Color and link are also two important properties of sockets.

Stat
(http://en.pathofexilewiki.com/wiki/Rarity)
This layer is what one is used to in Diablo 3. Magic loot has 3-4 max mods. Rare loot has 6 max mods. Re-roll and upgrade these stats to match your needs.

I feel like I am getting better loot than with my DH in D3. If nothing else the absence of an AH system has kept GGG from trying to limit our loot drops. The drops are not insane OMG because the system is designed for you to tweek existing items and even build good base items from the ground up using currency items.

I don't know if it's a factor of just having a job but almost every post I read now with questions and no beta key I feel that it's $10 just buy one and try it out. You probably spend 80% of that on a trip to Subway.

I would say so. Just the other day I more than doubled my dps just by picking up a rare bow and modifying with fusing orbs, jeweler orbs, and chromatic orbs.

Even before picking up that bow I always felt like I could handle the content with the decent gear I had. To top things off, once you start to memorize the sale recipes you are gonna be keeping everything you find just to make some currency out of it.

One of the reasons this games gonna make a lot of money for GGG is because people are gonna be buying a lot of stash tabs, and thats a guarantee.
Thanks for all the replies! I'm super excited for this game! I wish I would get a beta invite already >.> or magically have some generous soul give me a key! :P

Possible, but I expect that mule accounts will be extremely prevalent instead. There doesn't seem to be anything in place to stop that from happening, and I'm sure that GGG aren't going to make some huge campaign against it.

I'm expecting GGG to make a good deal of money off of basic cosmetic things. Players want alternate skins. Players want more gore. Things like pets and skill colorations will be cool to show off. These types of things make a good amount of money in other games (TF2 and Realm of the Mad God are 2 that come to mind) and if players like this game, they will tend to contribute to it.

Personally, I've got a Bronze pack, and I feel like I have little to no reason to buy more stash tabs than the 11 I have. I'm just leaving the rest of my GGGold for micro transactions.
Alteration Orb Union Local #7
I'll smash your nose with 20 Alterations before I'll sell them for 1 lousy Chaos. 16:1. No questions.
So you are gambling the weapons stats with the orbs?
