The longer you go without dying the more XP you get

What if instead of losing XP on death what about starting off with some base XP rate and have that rate increase per map that you clear without dying up to a cap? It will reset back to the base XP rate on death.

I think the psychological effect of getting less exp after dying will make more players quit after they die at high levels. Because when you die your exp/hr suddenly becomes less efficient.

Losing 10% or 2.5% as currently makes you feel bad too but at least your time spent playing the game is not suddenly worse after you die.

Players quit in both scenarios but the first one will most likely lead to the highest falloff.
It would be better if you'd gain "XP-loss resistance" the longer you play without dying, e. g. by killing mobs/bosses or completing maps. When you die, you lose no XP or at at least less XP, but the resistance goes down as well.

That way, you still have the incentive to no die, but if it happens once in a while it's no problem.
Yeah, this is essentially the approach that D3 had with their xp-buff shrines. And tell you what, never once did I feel frustrated back then when losing it due to death. Unlike the xp loss on death.
