[Linux] Random High CPU Latency

I'm using a Nvidia card on Bazzite, but the game's been running well for me using the default Proton version (compatibility tool box unticked) with the launch arguments as follows:
PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command%

Worth a try perhaps.

@TheSulit#5816: Same! Reliably happens with Ritual, but also noticed it in Deli, Breach, etc... super annoying

@capnhack#4587: Already in my launch options sadly, didnt help.

So I flipped over to Windows (for the first time in ~8mo?), and have zero of these issues but noticed that my CPU was running hotter than reported in Linux. So I ripped out my aging AIO and replaced it with a PhantomSpirit, and while it dropped my CPU temps (yay?) it had no effect and still having the same behaviour.

Also worth noting that once the CPU starts spiking IT DOES NOT GO BACK DOWN, unless you leave the area of the map that had the offending whatever (or leave the map, via portal if the game is responsive or char select if not).

This leads me to think that this is probably a similar issue to the raft of Shader problems everyone else is having, and that there is something seriously hosed in the gfx pipeline.

I know they very rarely if every reply, but if someone from GGG could at least let us know what we can provide to help troubleshoot? Anything? Please?
Hi there
I stumbled into your post, I've been having the same issue, running the game under lutris and proton, but on Fedora.
I have a ryzen 5600 and a 6600 gpu. and been running the game with Vulkan renderer, last league only got one similar issue once, but this league I've been getting it constantly on Ritual (making it unplayable) and sometimes in breach.

It seems that when there is a lot of effects (explosions, flames, particles in gneeral) the game goes nuts and the cpu latency spikes like crazy.

I waited in game with a minion build clearing all the stuff in the screen, but the latency stayed avobe 1700ms even after the monsters got me killed.

So far haven't found any possible fix, but it probably is on the game side and related to AMD combos.

Edit: need to further test, but an option on lutris called "Prefer system libraries" seems to help. Will update if the issue is gone and try to investigate the equivalent on Proton.

Edit: it didn't work, game still lagged like crazy on a breach

I have AMD 5950X + RX9060xt and I had the very same problem this league. But I think I managed to handle it.

I am using launch options as follows:
__GL_SHADER_CACHE_SIZE=100000000000 LD_PRELOAD="" PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %COMMAND% --nologo --waitforpreload
And I have installed proton EM 10.0-30 by using ProtonPlus tool (I am using Bazzite).
So far, all areas where I had 120ms+ CPU lag now is very playable.
Same issue here, running on arch kernel, AMD CPU/GPU, Steam game version with ProtonGE.

I've found it happens most often with Ritual/Beyond, but more specifically with Ignite/Shock spread like on Elementalist and explosions from all sources(Oriath's end, Herald of Ash, Berek's, Explode shrine, etc.) around mechanics that spontaneously spawn monsters. I don't think I ran into this particular issue once on my other chars, so I would recommend anyone reading to just play something else for the time being or until this gets fixed.

I've tried pretty much everything in the thread and like 15 others and nothing seems to be an applicable solution other than relogging.

Here's to hoping this gets fixed in the upcoming update.

I got the same problem farming harbinger, especially on Orchard Map. As soon as I encounter a Harbinger - <2FPS, >500ms CPU

Tried different versions of proton and several start commands, no change whatsoever.

Just posting here for visibility in hope GGG will fix this

Tried this today, same behavior sadly.

At this point I am fairly convinced it's something GGG will have to resolve if they care to.
Started getting this issue the past couple days as well running PoE through steam on bazzite, so far it has been blight and abyss that has broken my cpu latency but I have only gotten to tier 5ish maps yet so it will likely get worse once I get further in. Changing any in game settings has done nothing to help either alleviate the issue or prevent it from happening.

Wondering if GGG is using the new renderer they made for the last PoE2 update now in one, it has been causing a lot of issues there too but I have only just recently switched over to bazzite from windows 10 and have no prior gameplay from previous seasons on the new OS to compare performance.

Operating System: Bazzite 43
KDE Plasma Version: 6.5.1
KDE Frameworks Version: 6.19.0
Qt Version: 6.10.0
Kernel Version: 6.17.7-ba01.fc43.x86_64 (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: Wayland
Processors: 16 × AMD Ryzen 7 2700X Eight-Core Processor
Memory: 32 GiB of RAM (31.3 GiB usable)
Graphics Processor: AMD Radeon RX 6600
So finally tried something pretty obvious and switched to dx12 and all the issues went away. Dont know what happened to break Vulkan, but at this point dont care it works and I dont have to boot into Windows :-)
I tried that but it froze my entire OS (Fedora 42), will try again with a different proton/wine version

Edit: yep, my whole desktop glitched out, even after logout
