Again, I want to talk about the bad mechanics in PoE2, especially these 1-portal mechanisms. i played this game more than 2900 hours.
Notably, many community members, over time, have begun to feel a certain weariness with PoE2, due to it constantly going in circles, and the dev team continues to apply poorly made and ill-conceived mechanisms. Returning to an old concept about ARPGs: what matters is the loot. If I die by accident—let's say the ember from my cigarette fell in my lap, my cat jumped on the keyboard, the power went out, etc.—everything applied in this game is punishment, punishment, and more punishment. Why do the maps have 1 portal??? Whoever thought of that should open a debate. What is the basis for it??? One of the most explanatory phrases about this bad mechanism is this: "1 death per map is going to be the death of this game." And it is said not by me. Another phrase: "Just on cruel still, but this is gonna be a game killer if kept as is? I was hoping PoE2 would be more group-friendly, reviving each other, etc. in maps." Yet another: "Yep, it's utter garbage-tier game design and the opposite of what fun is." There are many, many more people who actually want to seriously debate this because it's about our entertainment, and at no point am I pointing the finger to say the game is bad, but some of the ideas you implement are awful, it's tiring... it's not fun... My God. Last edited by Kaiserblade42#2817 on Nov 1, 2025, 1:43:09 PM Last bumped on Nov 8, 2025, 1:30:11 AM

" And yet you're playing the game for 2900 hours. Can't be that bad then. El. oh. él. |

" There are many aspects of the game that you can like AND dislike at the same time. Also, you can like particular aspects of the game which are good and have potential yet the bad aspects of the game hold that potential back. A lot of things in this life are like this. Car guys for example know this feeling all to well. Another fantastic example can be found in the culinary world. Some flavors just don’t mix well. Personally, I don’t care for lemon with red meat, it’s a thing. I believe it stifles the robustness of meat but, some insist on it. It doesn’t mean the meat is bad, just that sometimes it just holds back something else that could be better. I hope you have a good day. Last edited by Skyvortex#7923 on Nov 1, 2025, 4:51:42 PM

I'm not an experienced player at all, but I totally agree with the statement. There are still plenty of one-shot-inevitable-death mechanics, and I rather play on 3-4 mod maps with 2 or three "lives" in the pocket. Which is... sad and restictive, because I am not able to "juice" the maps. Ofc, if you are playing overgeared meta-omg-gazillion-damage-unkillable character - you dont care, you are having your "fun", lol.

The portal thing doesn't make sense to me.
Since the dawn of gaming we've have set lives and continues. Sometimes you get a bonus life for certain tasks. This is a very basic method used when designing difficulty. On one side we have the OG games where no lives left meant restarting the whole game. That's seen as too punishing these days. On the other hand we have games where dying pretty much means nothing. Dying should always be a punishment. The degree depends on the game but I don't see how they can balance a variable number of attempts and difficulty. That's compounding not increasing. My guess is they're trying to address players DPS death bombing. Ever since Johnathan said they couldn't make enemies slower because players would skip them. I realized they're not really asking themselves what's wrong in their design which would cause a player to do that. "Never trust floating women." -Officer Kirac

The entire AI map sux. The map is non immersive, generic and overly complicated. The map should be a real look at Wraeclast. The maps should be scenarios like the interlude, where you chain sub bosses up to a fight with a overlord. As for the portals, why would you limit the portals. It makes zero sense.
The developers could then show us the life and turmoil on wraeclast through mini stories in regions instead of making the endgame just tedium. |

" This sounds cool but I think that it would be so limited in the long run. I just want the ability to play the map types I want to and not be forced to play the ones I don't. The world map looks cool but I think it would be much better if it was fixed and when you fight through each region you can get zone completion bonuses that could grant things like minor magic find or minor tablet drop buffs etc but the main point would be once you unlock a map type you can just get throwing waystones in it and keep farming the maps you like. Then to bring in the citadels, you get access to try one when you complete enough zones etc. Then if you fail, you need to reclear to them for the next attempt. Once you complete it, you need to reclear to farm them. Then once you clear all three you get the chance at arbiter and repeat. So if you want to hunt bosses, you just clear the 10-15 maps needed to unlock a citadel and repeat. If you just want to farm maps, you can pick the ones you like and repeat them to your hearts content. |

" So.......2900 hours. Game has been out 1 month shy of a year. For the benefit of the doubt, lets say 365 days. 2900 / 365 = an average of eight hours A DAY for the entire existence of PoE 2. And your main complain is "tiring, not fun, weariness" etc. Do you not see the problem with this? Do you not see that the simple answer to everything you are feeling, and attempting to attribute to many other players willy nilly? You have played an EXTREME amount of time. An obscenely EXTREME amount of time. A top 1%, top .1%, EXTREME amount of time. You know what you are actually feeling? Burnout. Has absolutely NOTHING to do with good or bad game design, you just played well beyond the time frame your "fun" could keep up at. I mean.....if such a CORE aspect of this game was as troubling and tiresome and "not fun", as you claim, there is not a chance in a million that you'd have been playing 8 hours a day, every day, for a year. Presumably, at LEAST 90% of that playtime you have has been interacting almost every minute with the one-portal system. And THAT is what you are claiming is not fun, tiresome, and awful. That is an exceptionally suspect opinion you are sticking out there that simply doesn't jive with your self-given "credibility" of 2900 hours of playtime. Starting anew....with PoE 2

" Imagine you are living in a neighborhood with streets littered with shit and garbage, not all the streets but at least certain part of those are. You’ve lived in the neighborhood long enough to encountered many of those street and feel disgusted by seeing them. Now you complained to the authority to fix them but rarely any response, some get fixed then returned to the original state. Do you criticize the one who lived there for too long and had ran out of the good street to travel around? Or do you demand the authority to do something about those shitty streets? |

" Not a legitimate comparison: You are comparing a non-choice (where you live, the costs of life, etc) to a chosen leisure activity solely designed for FUN. That is one hell of a strawman. Where your example falls entirely apart: 1) You CAN absolutely just.....stop playing. No cost, no backlash, nobody you need to talk to, nothing other than just....stop. You CANNOT just simply move out of where you live or change the streets you live on at any time you so choose. 2) If you are not having fun with a CORE part of a leisurely game....there are hundreds of thousands, literally ENDLESS other options at your fingertips at practically no cost. The same cannot be said of living arrangements or roads. 3) To use your example more appropriately, the person complaining would ALSO be spending much of his time not just disgusted by seeing these streets.....but also sitting in them, spending the majority of your waking time simply IN that environment, BY CHOICE. When you had other options. As if you were going out of your way just to see and experience and be around those "disgusting "streets on a regular basis 4) Also, we are not talking about "just encountering" by chance a few streets littered with trash.....we are talking about something you engaged with for 90% of your entire existence. And actively CHOSE to engage with, during your FREE time....not by necessity Starting anew....with PoE 2 Last edited by cowmoo275#3095 on Nov 6, 2025, 11:16:25 PM
