Character broken, equip mods not applying

I'm on ps5, poe2. I'm aware this may be me not knowing enough about game mechanics, but I've tried everything and did all the research I could before posting here, so on the chance that it may not be my ignorance, here goes:

I'm a lich, and tried (for the first time) to use a staff on my weapon set 2 to start using sigil of power. I did this while inside a map, if it matters. I slot it in, use Sigil of Power, it switches to weapon set 2, all good. I use essence drain, which is assigned to my wand, it switches back, but and now I'm holding my wand in one hand and my staff in the other (visually). That was my first 'huh?'. I try equipping, unequipping everything, nothing brings out my focus. So I'm like, ok, ill figure this out when I'm done with this map. May just be a visual bug or something.

Then I notice my damage has been cut SIGNIFICANYLY. Barely chipping away at the enemies' HP. So I go back to inventory with the skill tab open, and notice that no matter what I equip or unequip, my DPS for essence drain is locked at 721. Absolutely nothing changes this. I tried equipping and unequipping everything, restarting the game, restarting the ps5, nothing changed. All my skills are assigned to weapon set 1 now, i ditched the staff to try and fix everything, but even without it in the picture now, it seems none of my equip effects are being applied to my skills anymore.

Now my character, which I was having so much fun with, is either fully broken, or there's something I fully don't understand about its mechanics. I'd love some help please. :(
