Towers overrun with abyss do NOT have additinal pits

Just ran a tower that had "overrun by abyss" icon and was suppossed to have 17 additional pits according to the map mods drop down. There were no other mobs aside from the abyss mobs like other overrun maps...... yet here were only 3 pits..... total waste of the juiced waystone I used on it.
