POE2 Failed to connect to instance
|
Constantly unable to connect to each new instance whether it be going to hideout, new waystone, temple of chaos, etc. Any instance causes this issue
Have tried: Flushing DNS Restarting modem and router Changing server region Creating new instance with CTRL + Click Verified game files Edit: Path of Exile is allowed through my firewall and renewed my ip address but still the same issue Unsure on what else to do as I am unable to play the game at this point, it even sometimes happens when I attempt to login to my character. Trying to look up more solutions just leads to "Use a different region" or "Use auto region select to make sure you are on the right server" or "Restart your modem/router" ![]() Last edited by Deznick#6801 on Sep 11, 2025, 10:00:17 PM Last bumped on Sep 22, 2025, 9:16:34 AM

Assuming you're not using a VPN: Could you test with one? Proton's free tier should be fine.
If you are using a VPN: Can you disable it temporarily, just for testing purposes? Sometimes dozens - or more - people show up in a short period of time all complaining about this error message, which is typically a sign of some kind of server-side issue; e.g. GGG being targetted by DDoS attacks. As that doesn't appear to be the case atm, the most likely explanation is that there's an issue on-route - thus, attempting to change your routing is a good next step. You've performed some solid initial troubleshooting, btw. Changing gateway and performing a power cycle, in particular, are solid steps to take in response to this error message being thrown. Having spent thousands of euros on Path of Exile over the years, I will not be further supporting it financially until and unless GGG resumes offering Technical Support.

Installed ProtonVPN and have been using it for the past few hours
Have not had any issues so far, although the ping difference is pretty severe. I was thinking this might be a routing issue but I am not sure where I would be encountering an issue exactly. Is there an IP of the server I could tracert to? It's most likely something with my router and I think maybe a port is being blocked that is causing the interruption. Also thank you, I work in IT so had some idea atleast where to start |

" There is! This page should have everything you need; https://www.poecommunity.help/information/server-connection " I'm not sure which router-side issues would survive a power cycle but be mitigated by use of a VPN. God send
Thank you so much! And I have no idea either, maybe some jump between my ISP and POE is down? I am gonna run some more tests and see what's happening. It's been going on for several days now. I'll report back my findings once I get in some more testing |

Can I post logs here? I found out it was an IP address from the server and running tracert shows multiple hops to the server timing out.
Tracert showed I was able to connect to the server eventually but after multiple timed out requests (which I am assuming is enough to kick off POE2) Not really sure what to do with that though since I can't manage the hops I make between me and POE2 |

Ideally you'd post a link to it on Pastebin as a few logs posted in one page of a thread can kinda shrink the scroll bar and make the conversation difficult to follow - but it's not a big deal.
