Sudden freeze, gears appear, seconds later the game resumes - Is there a new fix for this?
" This is wierd, there is just a pop up with the statement, that the driver is outdated. They not force you to update the driver. I am still using the driver from december 2024 (does not remember the ver.) and I don't have any black screen you are talking about. 4090 nvidia card |

I had the same problem: the game freezes, black screen, gears appear, and then after 10 seconds everything is over. The map has been reset, but it continues exactly where you left off, including the battle, for example.
After switching to Vulkan, I didn't even have the problem anymore. The drivers are 581.15 from Nvidia. |

Keep monitoring the situation and let us know if you ever experience it again with Vulkan. It might be a separate issue that is being fixed with Vulkan, but clearly it's not fixing the issue I and others are experiencing. And, as Jonathan said, the "fix" was to roll back your nVidia drivers to the version that did not crash (566.36).
And a reminder, Vulkan uses nVidia drivers too. Man does not stop playing because he grows old. He grows old because he stops playing. - Oliver Wendell Holmes

Switching to Vulkan didn't help me any, Its sad that I am having to play on my Xbox when my pc is twice as good as my Xbox. I've got no issues whatsoever on my Xbox though. You would think that this issue would be top priority we don't need leagues in a beta we need game breaking bugs squashed

That's interesting that it doesn't happen on the Xbox, since I'm pretty sure that it also uses nVidia drivers. Maybe that's because the xbox drivers are fixed at the old version that didn't crash?

I have ryzen 5800x and rtx 3070 8gb, playing at 1440p (DLSS quality), and this crashing appeared like 1 or 2 years ago. I'm having better fps with dx12 and I saw that it's using like 5.3-5.6gb of VRAM and after crash it goes down to 4gb or something like that. Recently I changed to Vulkan and it didn't crash a single time, but oh boy the performance is sooo terrible even in hideout. compiling shaders almost all the time, so many stutters.. like going from 8ms to 20ms and I noticed that VRAM never goes higher than 4.1gb
it's getting a bit tiring playing like this, but I have no choice and currently I'm not looking into updating my hardware (GPU) p.s. still using windows 10 and noticed that if i use my second monitor (like keeping a browser on) the performance also drops like crazy Last edited by kampinis#6804 on Sep 18, 2025, 6:50:04 AM

I feel like it might be caused by a Nvidia driver update. If anyone wants to experiment try rolling back to one of the drivers from the time when it wasn't occurring and see if it goes away. Then we can say it a Nvidia issue.
" In your case this sounds like the CPU core issue I found in my research. There were like two different things, 1. Certain CPUs have temporary overclock modes and that shift up and down would sometimes cause issues. 2. Giving PoE access to all of your cores while multi tasking causes fuckery, there is a fix to limit the amount of cores it can use I think through config or something.
