Act 4 done on Monk and I feel crushed
|
While waiting for bug fix on Warbringer I started to play on Monk with intention to play as Hollow Palm Chayula and here are my thoughts:
Act 1 was done on mace skills, there was no benefit to start with Quarterstaff at all. Only when i got Ice Strike I switched to it with Tempest Bell for count Geonor fight but those skills have big issue. Ice Strike will snap me in middle of pack even if i checked to target ground and to attack without moving. Now that would not be problem if Hollow Palm had some damage or Monk side of tree got some sort of reduction to damage from ground effects. Because of this I was not able to finish any abyssal depth I have found. No matter how much i go back one it start to snap me toward enemy it was like playing Flicker Strike and had no control or way to get out because of body blocking. For closing gaps I was using Hand of Chayula, and for early game there is Staggering Palm so there is no need for strike to send me flying around or just add option to turn it off. Tempest Bell - why is there no option to place it without moving? And yes I have enabled to target ground but for some reason my character has to make two steps to place it at his feet and during that time I get swarmed or slamemd by boss. Charged Staff has some delay for activation and can be canceled most of the time while I'm attacking with Ice Strike (I did not test it with other skills) I've tryed my best to make my character somewhat playable but it still feels bad because i cannot make better gear without losing bunch of ressistance and Runes are not droping and even if I got some to spare it would not be enough to reach res cap. Here is my POB https://pobb.in/mSy33DPodQcC Yes I do miss life/mana leech but it is imposible to target craft them early on and if there is an essecnce well I dint not see one since middle of Act 3 and got swarmed by nearby abyssal monsters that where off screen at moment i started encounter. I will wait for fix on warbringer and hope that i get somewhat easyer campain if not i'll quit game and wait another update on POE1 Edit: I have forgot to mention that trees and totems look realy nice and are realy usefull for hiding ranged enemy and ground effect. I do not know what is purpose of not removing terrain while my character is there, if camera is fixed and cannot be rotated at least allow me to see what killed me. When playing melee usually you need some form of cc, whether it's freeze, stun or even knockback. There are ways to incorporate it. Make sure to invest early in speed and damage, the best defence early is just good attack, this way you prevent enemies from hitting and swarming you, if you hit them first.
I started with hollow Palm technique very early, and it felt very strong to me. I'm about to reach end game with it. I went for physical damage and stunning with palm technique that gives you a projectile to attacks on stun. Last edited by Niszczyciel#1619 on Sep 1, 2025, 1:00:10 PM

" If I wanted projectiles then I would choose Deadeye as every other player. And I do have a form of CC but it goes down the drain when my Ice Strike teleport me in middle of pack - that is issue. |

Monk (ice strike) was pretty painful for me until charged staff and then shattering palm. Level 54 now (crit based) finishing Act 4 and it's quite strong currently. I am exploding packs with Shattering Palm / Ice Strike and use the Bell / Unbound Avatar mostly on rares and bosses.
There is a good guide on it on maxroll if you need to get some ideas: https://maxroll.gg/poe2/build-guides/tempest-flurry-invoker-leveling-guide |

I get what you're saying, but it's still very up close and personal, just with extra oomph before they touch you.
For swarming cases you could use Monk leap slam attack with extra fissures. It's sometimes about using different skill depending on situation. |

Wind skills. Use wind skills. I switched to wind skills as early I could in act 1, and I've never looked back because they're awesome. Staggering Palm and Vaulting Impact, with a little Wind Blast if I need to create some space, has turned into an unstoppable fighting technique. I'm also still using the basic attack to supplement - not strictly necessary anymore, I don't think, but it's snappy and it feels good to use, especially with Tempest Bell against stunned bosses. GGG said that they'd buffed wind skills, and they did not lie.
Still in act 3, BTW (I'm a slow player) but nothing's been much of a struggle so far, and it's not because a god gamer or anything. Living the Hollow Palm live, and loving it. Stay sane, exiles! Last edited by NicknamesOfGod#1810 on Sep 1, 2025, 2:31:07 PM
