Uber Cortex Not Treated As Boss Fight?

I farmed 30 uber cortex for Grinding Gear Goals, and I noticed that I could actually pause during the fight. Also, I noticed that I was losing exp whenever I died to him. Why is Uber Cortex not treated like other boss fights? Is it because he's in a map? It feels kind of wrong.
