When did PoE "click" for you?

PoE's that sort of game which at first seems too complex and like a chore, however then it "clicks" and you start actually having fun with the game.

When did that moment happen to you?

For me, the first ARPG I tried was PoE. Didn't like how everything in the game was super complex and convoluted, and the fact that I stopped progressing before hitting Act 2 put me kinda off playing.

Then I found LE, and beat the campaign in there. It introduced me to the basics of modern ARPGs like the affix system, resistances, the endgame emphasis, and skills and I liked how the game was designed to lead even complete noobs without guides to the endgame - though I felt that the game still needs a few more cycles to mature.

Then I bought D2 to mod it with the PD2 mod, and then I realized "wait, PoE is based on D2 and has QoL like not losing your items on death and there's no stamina bar"...

So I gave PoE another shot, this time with a build guide designed for 3.26. And then it clicked when I progressed with barely any barriers, understood quite a lot of the stuff and got to Act 2 without feeling like I'm struggling.

I joined early in 2012. Vaal Overlord (act 2) was the final boss back then, if I remember correctly. Anyhow, I played Standard on and off for a few years, even after they started pushing out temporary leagues. The first league I really spent some time in, was Legacy league - but I was still very "fresh" when it 'deep' mechanics.

So the first time it really clicked for me, was the league after; Harbinger League. It was the first league where I went "all in", and I actually did 34/40, even though I never care about challenges. I also remember the build: Frost Blades Raider.

I still miss Raider, and I wish they reworked/buffed it instead of replacing it with the Warden.
Bring me some coffee and I'll bring you a smile.
I immediately flew in love vs poe when in the first lvl up opened and saw that skill tree 😁

I've been playing since Torment, but I'd only dip in for the occasional league, skipping over others.

Like Phrazz, Harbinger was the turning point for me. That's when I took the time to learn the game properly and work through the endgame.

And I'd say Blight was another clicking moment where things really ramped up.
When I started to understand the mechanical interconnections and how intertwined everything is. There's a certain beauty to PoE that is kinda hard to describe. I really got into it back in late 2015/early 2016, as that's when I was confident enough to make my first guides. They weren't good, but it helped me learn more and become more confident over time. PoE is a game where you can and will never know everything.

Although I do also have a love-hate relationship with this game...

Was mostly into RTS like command & conquer and Earth2150

Tried diablo 2, played necro and didn't like it at all because of buy potion > kill stuff > drink potion > go to town and repeat. Just slogged through and killed diablo. Put it down and uninstalled it.

Fired up diablo 2 again a few months, this time with a barb. Again more potion spamming. Finally killed andariel and went to act 2. Unique 2 hander dropped with life steal/mana steal. Life/mana steal QoL instantly hooked me in. Never looked back. Same reason came over to PoE.

Asked my brother how he got into d2. He said 2 words: Life steal.

Sometimes the little things matter.

Honestly, my main problem with D2 was the fact that you lose equipped items on death. Sure, you can recover them from your corpse, however when the corpse in question is near a huge pack of mobs that you can't kill because you don't have any items...

The game is otherwise quite solid and I can see the similarities between it and PoE.

I learned about PoE while it was in early development/pre-release. I was actually an old Diablo/D2 player, and I was growing disillusioned by what was being revealed about the upcoming Diablo 3. However, the YouTuber I followed D3 coverage from also covered PoE, and it looked fantastic! I turned my back on Diablo and never looked back. =^[.]^=

My "click" Moment was as i understand that Alc and go is not the way to go if you want to have a Svallin or something else.
I tried some farming strategies with a little investment in scaraps in maps. Before i did this, i was afraid that i get the 3 chaos from maprolling back. Now i know if you have the right farming strat, then 50c invest per map is not to much to make profit. And with more currency my chars become better and better and slowly i could afford all the good items the streamers had in their Builds.

Another "click" Moment was to understand how important it is to add tankyness and quality of life like "corrupted blood immunity" or Ailment immunity or max Block to a build to have more fun cause 6 Portal Defence Layer is not the way to go :o) Learning how defence mechanics working together was the best "Click" for me.
I discovered PoE so late, to my fate, 2 months after D4 release, i purchased, did the campaigns and saw that it was empty.

I was an OG player of D, D2, D2Lod (still have them on their boxes), D3 and D4 fan... But couldn't stand anymore the way it was turning that adventure.

I knew that "a very complex and deep ARPG" called PoE existed but never played it, since then.

My first build, in standard, was a complete fail.
My first build on a league, was a complete fail.
My first achievements (4 voidstones and few more...) all carried.

The click was, that every single time i asked for help, for noob questions or for "what is this and what it does", i got a pack of anon players ready to help and answer my questions.

That is the click for me in this game.

Lately i see a bit "of rage" on the general channel, but it's a minor issue.

The moment i open a game with a name like "Help with XXX map boss, boss" it gets flooded of players willing to help. Even on chilling parties like "My maps your showoffs".

My F list is full of people that i have noted like "helped in this, carry t17s, gifted me a Mageblodd (that is way another story)"...

And i hope it continues that way!
