Fortitude node on champion bugged?

I am playing a champion and I have 36 max fortification. But I am also playing together with a champion support, and he also has Fortitude allocated. When he is near me, I gain his max fortitude of 20, even tho mine is 36. And he gains my max of 36.

Is this working as intented? Should not the one with more max to fortification override the one with less?

I tried to swap to slayer to check too, my gloves (The Celestial Brace) give me fortify on melee hit.

I go and hit mobs and get my max fortification (36) and as soon as my champion support comes in range, he drags my fortification down to his max (20) because of the Fortitude node.
