exa and regal orbs... Why are they so rare?

I would actually try to craft stuff if both were 5 or 10x less rare.
I've found 3 exa and maybe 10 regal in well over a 1000 hours of play, most of which was played with 100+ iiq. For all that time, i can craft just a single item using the alt regal exa method.. which just doesn't seem right.

I know they are used as a trading medium, and a change in drop rate would just mean that high end items just go up vs exa which is fine since they are meant to be rare... but I have found more high end uniques then I have exa... it just doesn't feel right.

The inherent value they provide does not match the rarity.imo... especially regal orbs

What is the justification behind why they are so rare when their ultimate purpose is to be used for crafting?

your thoughts?

What part of this game tells you that crafting is a good idea or is supposed to be done? Every single part of crafting, from fusing to exalting is a waste. It is always cheaper to buy, and the numbers are always against someone who crafts. I have had luck crafting in the past, but overall I have lost about 20x more than the value of my crafted items. Exalted drop rate is so low, because crafting isn't meant to be done by 99% of the playerbase.
Regals come from the vendor recipe of which materials come in no shortage for its intended audience (end-game players).
Because they are powerful items that can actually make or break an item with a few simple clicks.

When one simple thing can make a certain thing's value shoot through the roof, it has to be rare, or the effect it has on said item isn't so great anymore.

Would you honestly want 7000 exalts droppin for everyone in the game? They would be worthless then.

If you NEVER have a certain currency to strive for and to always be surprised to see drop, you will lose interest in the game unless you are an EXTREMELY EXTREMELY simple person who is so easily pleased that you are honestly a mystery to science.

I understand it sucks to wait and wait and wait. But the other end of the spectrum means you get no enjoyment out of it after a while.

It's the wait that makes it worth it. Makes it rare. Makes it great to strive for.

It doesn't have to be polar opposite, but it will always apply like that in arpgs. There always has to be an end game over the top item that EVERYONE will benefit from. It always has to be that way in the end. If you think otherwise, anyone, you are wrong.
GGG gives me Diablo 2 Teleport? I give them 50 bucks. No questions asked.

this is my point exactly. people feel compelled to hoard their orbs to trade for better items... even if regals and exa were 10x more common it would still be a leap of faith to try and craft but the potential waste wouldn't sting as much since it wouldn't represent such a huge ratio of a players total wealth.

Right now an exa probably represents 2 or 3 times more value then all other currency items an average player owns. The disparity in rarity is crazy high.

The rest of the items seem to be fine with the drop rate with the exception of GCP. I think they should be more rare since this game is in it for the long haul and most people already run around with 20% gems.

those end game items are worth more as white items then a regal is worth(which is fine). With the recipe you may get a regal or 2 per 75+ map? the recipe is fine and a 5 or 10x increase would just mean an extra regal every 5 to 10 maps instead of every 20 to 50 maps

Yeah agree it's a arpg with the economy of a mmorpg. Seems like it's just to artificially drag out the game.

same as gambling in diablo 2. a sink. a different avenue for gear. kinda fun and rewarding when you get that awesome item.

I understand the need for rare currency and the excitement when one drops... a 10x change in rarity for exa would still mean you get one ever 30 hours of play instead of 300+ hours.

i went probably 800 hours played between my first 2 and my third... (first 2 in first day)

this towards me?

never said anything about trading. I sad crafting is just another avenue of obtaining good gear with a form of risk such as gambling in diablo 2.
