Are the dumb ritual balls bugged?

I have have tried everything I know to not get one shot by the ritual balls. Max res on everything including chaos, wearing doppleganger, and even getting to 85 max fire res while using ruby flask + Kaom's binding on merc. Still 1 shot by these things that I cannot even see. Can we get this fixed as it makes ritual unplayable. I assume 0% of HC are using it.
