It's more regional that simply the connection type. It's about the stops on the way to GGG's servers more than the way you connect to your ISP.

Easy way to check is untether a cell phone, connect it to your PC, and start pinging shit.
If the latencies go > 100 msec, not sure this will be a good idea. There's also the charges to worry about. |

Over 2GB a month and they're charging you an arm and a leg for bandwidth. It's really not worth that cost unless you're always travelling. I'd move if I were you.

Make sure to have a unlimited plan, I had the same thing happen to me before I bought a house, had to use my phone as a tether.
Luckily for me there was a 4g tower within 30 miles of me so I got 15MB down 3 MB up speeds. Biggest usage I had was 240 GB for the month, but that was streaming pandora, twitch, downloading and updating games. I never had a issue playing PoE with it. Twitch.tv/Nithryok

" That's a big marketing lie. Even if you pay the extortion price to get "unlimited" data usage, you are still getting throttled on your speeds after a certain usage amount. One movie stream could easily take your entire months fast bandwidth and leave you with a trickle for the rest of the month. |

Go with DSL aka direct satellite internet. They can install pretty much any small town. If there are cell towers present.
Cell phones have monthly bandwitch usage caps. DSL does not. IGN: lVlage (96 Witch)

" They most certainly have limits on their "unlimited" plans. They do not allow for tethering at all, or roaming usage to surpass certain limits. They might send you a text before disconnecting the phone instead of slowing it down, but they are the same as all the other carriers. If you want to pay extra for tethering, it will cost you $19.99 a month for 2GB of data and $49.99 a month for 6GB of data, with each additional GB costing $51.20. I use my AT&T phone to tether an internet connection to play. I have never had any problems with lag or disconnects. I have a 10GB data plan and that seems to be enough, I previously had 6GB but was going over.
Playing POE, or other games doesn't use up nearly the amount of data as watching videos/streams does. |
