Equipment slot and max number of sockets

Taking into account IL and appropriate theoretical maximum number of sockets that it can get, is there a limit to the number of sockets by slot type?

For example, it seems a dagger can only have 3.
If there is a compendium could someone link it please?
Thank you.
From what I have been told ingame, the max number of sockets is the same as the number of spots it takes up in the inventory. If a weapon takes up 6 slots, then max is 6, if it takes up 3, max is 3. Etc. I am not 100% sure on this, but it accounts for my experience.

As far as I recall it goes like this.

One handed weapons = 3 slots
Two handed weapons = 6 slots
Chest Armour = 6 slots
Head/Gloves/Boots = 4 slots

I'm not sure about shields but I think they are 4 slots?
Thanks
All shields can only have 3 sockets, to keep them in balance with dual-wielding.

In the past, some of the large str-based shields could have up to 6.

bows i belive would be considered part of 2h weapons, and the quiver i dont think can get a socket (that way bow players cant have the possibility of having more sockets than other players)
Things with "increased" and "decreased" in the tooltip are additive ... where as "More" or "Less" are multiplicative ...
