Okay ya'll I was having a similar issue, but I think I found a fix. Running the game via crossover on an M1 Mac.
Started the league no problem today, but after taking a dinner break, ran into this error upon trying to launch the game: [VULKAN] Failed to allocate texture [Shadow Atlas], along a black screen. It seems like the game is auto-defaulting to Vulcan, maybe that happened with the hotfix 3 they pushed, I'm not sure. There's probably a more efficient way to fix this but, here's what I did: 1. open up the production_config.ini in text edit 2. go to format-> select "make rich text" 3. Save 4. Undo what you just did, I think its something like "plain text" 5. Launch the game 6. At this point it will crash, and generate a new Config file in your documents, delete the old one you had modified 7. Regardless of what your previous settings were, you'll notice this config file is set to "device_type=Vulcan", Change this to "device_type=DirectX12" and boom should be good to go. (P.S) I just stumbled upon this, its probably as simple as deleting the config file and letting the game generate a new one, rather than the format thing, but figured I'd replicate here what I did. |

" You Beautiful man, have my first born child. This works, this is the dumbed down version 1) Delete the config file in Documents / My Games / Path of Exile / (production_Config) 2) Run the game, it generates a new config file, it will fail 3) Open the config file and search for "device_type" and update it to "device_type=DirectX12" Thank you friend |

OK just tested. No need to delete your config file (you will have to redo all your configs if you do). Just edit the production_Config.ini file in a text editor and change the
" to " I also deleted my cache, but I'm not sure that was necessary. If there is no line for device_type, then just add it to the bottom of the [DISPLAY] section. Last edited by rapind#7028 on Jun 14, 2025, 7:49:48 AM

I managed to get POE itself to launch by forcibly changing the config.ini to use directx12 but its skipping past the update to launching the client early and results in an endless loop of trying and failing to get it to update. Does anyone know a way to resolve this issue?
Edit: deleting the content.ggpk file let me force it reinstall all patches so that will hopefully fix the issue but is very nearly a full reinstall of PoE so its going to take a while. Edit again: forcing a full reinstall apparently did not actually cause it to grab the patch properly, launching caused it to crash and reopening has it showing the exact same graphical glitch and claiming that it needs a new patch again. Finally got it to launch Last edited by CarbotZergling123#2587 on Jun 14, 2025, 1:52:55 PM
