intel 285k insane spikes since 3.26 patch update caused by engine multithreading

this was at flat 2-3ms before in the login screen, 0 spikes
the same thing happened in poe2, before the 0.2 patch it was normal, after the 0.2 patch it looks like this

whatever you guys changed for intel cpus, mainly the ultra 9 285k series, please revert it, it makes it nearly unplayable

you guys basically fucked over both games for the cpu for whatever reason, all other games work totally normal

UPDATE 21.06.:
disabling engine multithreading in the game settings solves it completely, but gives shit performance obviously
the cpu spikes go away the second i disabled it

could this be because the ultra series doesnt hyperthread anymore? so 1 core 1 thread instead of the previous 1 core up to 2 threads?
and the game forces the 2 threads onto cores so it kinda conflictes with the cpu architecture?
ggg please look into this issue...

can you guys please look into whatever engine change youve made into those 2 patches, i literally have to restart my game up to 20 times just to get an instance of it that runs semi fine (still worse than before the patch)

on my old 6700k i have 0 issues, and on any other game on the 285k i have 0 issues, before this patch i had 0 issues, same with poe2 0.1
again, this issue wasnt here before the 0.2 patch for poe2 and the 3.26 patch for poe1
it has 100% to do with the things you changed in the engine (you even talked about it in a poe2 interview, because of intel instabilities)

here are a few examples, every single instance of this is just closing and reopening the game, the first few seconds of the graph stay like this forever, so i basically fish for a good instance by opening and closing the game til i get a flat line.
there has to be a massive issue in the engine if thats the case that closing and reopening the game can have such a huge impact

then as an example, this here was pre 3.26 in a map, not even on the login screen:

0 cpu spikes, 0 frametime spikes, meanwhile after 3.26 with the 285k you cant even get a flat cpu line in the god damn login screen

im sorry but having to close the game 20 times to fish for a decent instance thats still worse than pre patch is just idiotic and if that keep getting ignored i might just be done with poe1 and poe2, not worth the hassle

same problem here, you need to restart the game many times to make it work properly
you got the 285k too? or an older intel?

Try looking in your BIOS under:

Long Duration Power Limit(w)
Short Duration Power Limit(w)

If they are on auto, there is a good chance you're pushing too much power to the CPU which is causing instability. I changed mine from "Auto" (which is up to 4000w) to just 253w max (which is what the i9-14900KF supports).

Haven't had any crashing or weirdness since making the change.
but why would those issues suddenly occur (only in poe and poe2 after theyre latest 2 patches) if the issue is in the power delivery?
like it was completely fine in both games until they patched it

A euphemistic way of putting it is that GGG's games aren't the worst way of testing for stability after you buy or upgrade a computer. Every game - and every piece of software, more generally - will interact with hardware differently. In terms of CPUs, different applications will have different workloads - some might do a lot of AVX-512 stuff; others might flip the cache contents more than others. The Paths of Exile tend to be aggressive in how they utilise hardware - to the point that if I bought a new computer and wanted to do some thermal testing, I'd probably just load up PoE 1 and try mapping for 30 minutes. That's... not an exaggeration. I'd literally do that, lol.

If they tweaked their game engine, it could alter how the games interact with the different individual components of your CPU, which could absolutely expose a lack of sensible voltage limitations. While you could, for example, probably have played Hearthstone for 20 years without it ever giving your CPU sufficient tasks to perform for it to start ramping up the voltage to problematic levels.

I'm not Lyxcrit - but their suggestion isn't a bad shout at all.
