Omen of Amelioration is a bandaid for a problem. Nothing more. The punishment that is XP loss on death becomes more severe the higher level you are. It hardly punishes you when you are say lvl81, but it robs you of hours and hours of progress once you are lvl95 and up. The Omen alleviates some of that for the very high levels.
The real question is: Why does XP loss on death exist? Some people will claim it is "teaching you that something is wrong with your gear" or that you are "attempting content that is not suited for your skill/itemization/etc". But that's all just a load of horse poo poo. If I am lvl81 I hardly care if I die every 10th map. It has no bearing on my progress. I don't learn jack from it. But when I am lvl98 and I die once every 50 maps all of my XP progress from those 50 maps is evicerated (without the Omen). But I already reached lvl98, I have close to BiS gear, I have bested hundreds of maps and max tier pinnacle bosses. I don't learn jack from it either. Other people will claim: It's so people don't play class cannons dying their way to 100. This is more BS of course, because as stated before it's impact before lvl90 is negligeble, and only becomes overbearing the last couple of levels. So you can totally glass cannon die your way to lvl 90, 91, 92. And with the Omen you can even glass cannon die your way to lvl95 This mechanic makes no sense at all when you think about it. That's why people complain. It's punishment for punishment's sake |

" It makes sense to make to hard to 100 and no exp loss from death is bs tbh. The problem is that it follows the exp curve with POE1 but in POE2 the max area level you can reach is 82 while POE1 is 83 iirc. Also the monster density is a lot lower than POE1 and that's why its hard to reach level 100 that you think the xp penalty is the main reason but its not. Of course, a more diverse defensive layer can also improve this problem. |

" Yes, and lvl82 maps in PoE2 are nigh inaccessible this patch. But what you describe doesn't solve the problem. What you are saying is: "If you earn more xp the problem is not as obvious". Edit: I just checked there isn't a single character in HC SSF or SC SSF that made it thus far to lvl 100. There is 2 characters in HC Trade that made it to lvl 100 and 29 characters that made it to 100 in SC Trade. Pretty much 2 months into a 3 months league. There really is no need to additionally waste people's time with XP loss. The regular grind is already grueling enough. Last edited by Slart1bartfast#0332 on May 23, 2025, 7:15:52 PM

" It will be a lot more approachable to 100 if my aforementioned problem is solved. Maybe you don't have concept on how these problem affects experience gain, but I would say it's at least 5-10 times more easier to get to 100 in POE1 than in POE2, especially when in POE1, you can have ~10 breaches on the same map consistently if you want. |

Personally I would be quite happy with the XP loss being tied to whether or not the map gets completed vs 1 random death. I’m level 96 and have not progressed past 2 bars in weeks
