Damage Calculation Error - Doryani Laser (tied to FPS)
I know, it's ridiculous, but the title says it all.
I ran into this just recently playing the game co-op with my wife, and Doryani's big laser spread attack instantly killed me (I timed it at roughly 0.35 seconds), but she was able to weather the storm, no problem - even though our resistances are within a couple percent, and our effective health pools very much equivalent. I recalled I'd had the same problem with the Doryani fight with an alt character as well - so what gives? Why was she fine, and I was instantly killed? The answer was simple, and once I thought about it for a second, obvious: Frame rate. I play on the tower PC and run the game at around 200-240 frames a second; she plays on her laptop getting 40-60 frames. So I turned on frame capping at 60 frames; and guess what? I could walk through the laser barrage and be fine - barely any damage by comparison (maybe 15-20% of my life; quickly regenerated). Try it; I kid you not, it absolutely worked. There seem to be a couple other enemies that this effect applies to as well; so if anyone out there is wondering why you sometimes just take a zillion damage a second and die, that very well might be it.
