My Poe 2 Quit Moment

so i just wanted to come here and write my thoughts after 24 hours in the game, (base your opinions as you wish) i was playing huntress and had gotten to mid tier maps, i needed to do the trial that is like Sanctum, and i just couldnt bring myself to finish it, i got to the third level and i just couldnt be asked to run it with so many negative boons and the god awful movement speed and convoluted layouts that for the first time in Poe for me i just quit and had no desire to revist the game afterwards, i have been frustrated before with poe 1, but i have never gotten to the point where i quit cold turkey, so its intresting to me that it happned with poe 2 so fast, in any case i still think the game is decent, it just needs more work, the premis of implementing Elden Ring like esthetics to the game is opposing the Arpg fantasy, it just needs tweaking and i hope it gets there, peace.

My "hack" is that I wait until I'm 10 levels above the level of the ascendancy run. That way it goes faster. You don't get much power from ascendancy points anyway. But I agree with you that ascending is boring.

What bugs me the most about it, and I haven't seen other people say this, is that Izarro had a fascinating back story, while the Trial Master is just a MacGuffin. Dullest quest giver ever.

the Trial Master is just a MacGuffin.

I believe we should see two more Ascendancy trials coming with the unreleased acts. However, I have to say, overall, the game feels like a rushed, copy-paste release for Early Access. It seems like they took what they can and used it where they could to build poe2, without actually making a new game - which is mostly true considering POE2 was supposed to be POE1.5

It really seems like they just wanted to get PoE 2 “on the shelves,” probably at Tencent’s behest.

Right now, the game is in a terrible state.
Putting build defining and arguably the most interesting build choice selections behind content that people vehemently dislike, and then going on record to say "We have no plans to make this easier or quicker" is tone deaf at best.

I enjoy the trials in a vacuum if there were some sort of other reward. But gating my ascendency behind it sucks. It sucked in POE1 when it was just Lab, but lab was 100x more pallatable. These trials make you want to jump off a building. Honor... yah basically throw my character build out the window and give it "Honor" which is the sum of life and ES. Forget about my other defenses though, all that other stuff I built in. Its Honor!!

If they would do it like POE1 where the 3rd and 4th ascendencies are just one floor or three rooms or whatever, but harder, I'd be more OK with that. Still sucks, but at least Im not burning over an hour of gametime when I die.

GGG, look at stats, if you can, of how many people rage-quit and logout of your game when they die in trials. I do.
trials are LARGE dice roll moment that can give you good experience or nuke off your will to play the game which is horrible game design choice , for me trials were aint that hard because i run fire and forget chaos build with overtime damage so i can avoid most of honor hits.

in my opinion there is 2 issues with trials and simmilar challenges: they are too long and that fact that you loose token after death. which sucks a lot and can be solved by adding saving points , but if you reload you will loose all loot loot that you got from rooms before it to prevent exploits but if you loose you dont loose anything , even xp.

Not to worry, TFT is always there to fix the Vision:) OP could've gotten all ascendancy points for 5 min and a fee.

Unfortunately, I had to save up enough currency to do this. Trials are awful, I don't know how people are farming them over and over for loot. That's just torture.

Just saying, but Sanctum layouts never change. There is a couple of static layouts. Last Trial for example has only a single layout for Gauntlet.

Sanctum is a part of the game that you have to grind stuff for. You have to do several runs to farm relics for example. Then there is some stuff you should do.
Avoiding random affliction is one of them. Always try to avoid them.

As far as I know people play LS or Ranged to 1 shot the map.

Other than that, the entire run is pretty doable.
They are not fun, and nobody likes them, but there are some helpful videos on Youtube that do make them more manageable than going in on the more blind side.

Will they ever be fun? No, but once you learn what rooms to avoid, what burdens have a MAJOR impact on things, and the BIG rule, which is NEVER TAKE A RANDOM BURDEN BECAUSE "MINOR" IS A LIE AND THEY WILL ALWAYS BE REALLY BAD IF YOU CANNOT SEE WHAT THEY ARE, and then you start farming up honor resistance, a bit of +honor, defenses, life, and things like that, you will get the hang of it. Also, very important, LOOK AHEAD, and if you see you are coming to a room that leads to only exit one path, CONSIDER AVOIDING IT, and instead go for a room with at least 2 choices. It might trap you into taking a very dangerous burden that will brick your run. Sometimes you can get burdens that will not impact your build, or they wont trigger until after you are already finished with your run (like if they happen after 4 or more rooms, and you only have 3 rooms left). Save as much water as you can for the last room, because you get one last chance there to buy a relic that might help you in the future (Balbala sells relics in the last room), and dont forget that you can buy a lot of helpful relics of trade for 1-2 ex each! It also helps to open all the containers when it is safe (either near them, or, I know, *ugh* backtrack after a room is clear, they often drop relics.

Its never gonna be great, and I think people who are counting on the new trials are coping, it is just a terrible part of the game that you have to get through 3x per character. After a while, you start to understand what to avoid (the videos help, Ziggy D, and you might find some other recs) in Sekemas and Trials, and things get a lot less intimidating.

But they always stress me out, and IFL I will never get my 4th without assistance, but I get through it, and you can as well (Im not even that good at the game, I just do my research and power through, and realize setbacks are a part of the game - they suck, but eventually they can be overcome).

Lastly, If you are trying to run a melee build, its probably always just going to be pure torture unless you find a way to make your build have some degree of range-ness.
