Game isn't responding

I don't know what happens to the game, that when I select the character and click on "play", it freezes on the loading screen and pops up a steam or windows message saying that the game is not responding. I try to wait a little but it doesn't change anything. I already tried to redownload the game, to reboot my pc, to reboot steam, but nothing appears to work. Just in case, my pc has the recommended requirements to play the game so I really don't know how to fix it. Please help.
