Defenses < Damage

Honestly unless you play in the top right half of the tree you cannot get enough defenses to not get onetapped in tier 15 maps regularly. Energy shield just reigns supreme.

Caster gear just gets 12-14k effective HP from countless +% based increments. And warriors and evasion / armor based builds just get oneshot every so many maps. Because we get flat HP and evasion just gets obliterated regardless of how much you have.

It's ridiculous, my lvl 86 huntress ritualist now has 1650 HP / 1550 energy shield, 42% block, 66% evasion, 19% armor and capped in all resistance categories and still getting one-shot every map. (tier 13s!) And I'm not even playing uber juiced maps. Regal orb / sometimes an extra exalted orb.

Oh you want to respawn and try again. Sure, here have another 10% XP loss and another and another and go back to your hideout.

There are 3000000 posts of XP punishments being the most frustrating and disgusting disrepectful thing in the game. It's a giant middle finger to your player base. *inserts jonathan adjusting his glasses meme*

Maybe if you're unable to balance your game, please don't add a mechanic that just shoves a cactus up your player bases behinds and twists it and hammers it in repeatedly.

How does a thunderstorm shrine one-tap me three times in a row? Just because my map has -11 max elemental resistances?? Is that literally enough to just obliterate 3000hp who might have a little damage taken from surrounding packs?

I'm honestly frustrated.
I don't even have that many options to improve my gear anymore without spending a fortune.

I see a lot of people say energy shield is king. I'm wondering how you get enough of it to stay alive? I use it until about 78 and just kept dying as there is nothing to keep things from hitting you and no mitigation. White mobs were killing me. So I switched from 4k ES to 70% evade and 1500 ES and it felt so much better. The problems I have are things you can't evade like those volatile plants or other AE effects but I was already dying to those with only ES.

To me anyway, it feels like the single defenses are really weak by themselves and the paired ones feel much stronger. At least going through the campaign and early mapping.
Obviously, I'm not saying that this game is well balanced, but yeah, sorry to point it out but you are complaining about defenses while getting only 1550 ES. You could get a lot more than that.

Hybrid building is not that hard on ritualists, as they usually can get most of their resists with 3 buffed rings, which demand less resistance on other gear, so you can focus on getting ES and Evasion on them.

I don't know the standard for SC, but people on HC are getting easily around 4k ES on that kind of build at your lvl and over 6k when the build is completed. On top of capped chaos resist, obviously. That amount is more than enough for safe mapping.

Life-based builds are in a strange spot. You can build a good amount of life if you can stack STR, which combos well with mace builds, which usually go with Giant's Blood. I got a Smith of Kitava with full resist (89/90/90/78) with 4k while using Onslaught helmet, and a Titan with 5k life. Both are pretty tank while mapping and I did all pinnacle bosses T3 (except Arbiter) with them on SSFHC.

Thus, life-based builds are not all lost, but if you cannot stack STR, yeah, it seems unfeasible. They need to balance it somehow. Pure DEX builds were never on the "tank" side even on poe1 though, except for pathfinder which rely on flasks anyway.

*obs.: I stopped playing poe1 over 3 years ago, so things I said about that could be outdated
My amazon got one shotted even with 3500 ES and similar stats as yours. And it's not surprising. I play a lich now with 10k ES and it still gets depleted sometimes in an instant. Mobs hit much harder than in 0.1. And then you read ls amazon = op. Dunno to me that would mean cozy screen clearing without the nonstop danger of insta death.
Hello, Warbringer here.

It's possible to tank on Stand. It takes a lot of effort for several very very expensive Adoptions and a lot of knowledge about how the Game processes Damage. So far i am pretty good at it, doing Simulacrum, Citadel's, T16 on double-Corruption +3 Bosses. But still, i think i can improve with more Dedication for a Trade to DPS. Honestly i am very satisfied with my build and proud to know what i have to change to reach something for something better.

I want let you know, a 100% Face-Tank is not what PoE-2 wants you to provide. Mechanics like "Dodge-Rolls" will always be a crucial Part of Tank-Builds. (Unless you find a better "Unweavering Stance"-Build)

Greetings.

Hint: Check some Unique's like "Obern's Bastion" - giving you very convincing Tanking Abilities...

these are terrible stats for level 86.

you should be near-cap on evasion/block and have like 2000 life (Ghost Shrouds are only OK if you don't get hit a lot)
Well I swapped out my body armour and head gear, I now have 1600 hp and 3700 energy shield plus 76% max resistances, same amount of block, 72% evasion. Still getting one-tapped on nearly every tier 15 map.

they have to buff life pool
That's what happens when the developer has this weird obsession with making defensive layers that are intended to fail. Raw HP pool wins. ES doesn't even have a purpose in PoE2.

Ok... we have 3 defenses:
armour - that reduce incoming physical damage only, but not in a straightforward way. When you have 14k armour tooltip will say 82% reduction, but in reality its this:

Most enemies in t15 hit 1.5k btw... so realistically you reduce 40% of incoming damage. :D

We have evasion that have a chance to evade hits and projectiles.
For warriors the true mitigation is a shield. Block is technically evade but it can trigger thorn.
Sadly most enemies have AOE. You cant block or evade that, unless you have turtle charm or acrobatics.

And there's energy shield.
Its an extra hitpoint, and unless you get bleed or poison, it will soak every type of damage up.

So you're a warrior with 75% lightning resist and get a 10k lightning strike in the face? 2.5k damage on your 2.3k hp. Have fun clicking the respawn screen.

Same for evasion.

You have 10k shield? You still have 7.5k left...

ES weakness should be that enemies can kill them with hits, bleed and poison, but every endgame build is tapping the screen clear...
