GGG fairness
![]() I was banned a few years back on my Early access Beta account because I mentioned a site ingame. I didn't even rmt. Meanwhile you have people that just RMT blatantly and get away with it. They even know the person is rmting. Best part is shortly before People got outed for RMTing they denied my appeal. Those people are still able to play. " If your account was permanently banned entirely for that and it was a first offence, then that's definitely a strong reaction from GGG and I do have some sympathy. But, speaking as someone who used to work in the industry (albeit never at GGG), I have in the past perma-forum banned people for individual posts about game piracy / RMT. It is hard to overstate the extreme prejudice with which these things are acted upon. For one - registering an account to post on a forum is typically not only free, but something that bots can readily achieve. In any case where a game is either Free to Play (e.g. Path of Exile) or has a free trial, the same is true of accounts & in-game chat. In the decades I have been playing online games, I can't think of a single time I have ever mentioned an RMT site in chat. It's definitely not a great look to specifically know the name of one or more of them - and even if it is not your intention, specifically name-dropping them can serve to advertise them to others. So it's not without its consequences for the developers, and the main thing is just how... seemingly avoidable it is? Like, I can't imagine the context in which you thought it was a sensible thing to do. If it was up to me then my reaction likely wouldn't have been drastically different - though I'd probably have been prepared to offer another chance on a "you have been permanently banned before - next time there won't be any appeals or third chances" basis. |

" But... why? Literally why. " Probably not the wisest move - personally, this would tip the scales for me and would actively cause me to decide against a last chance. (Again, I have never worked for GGG.) You need to understand that you were punished for the message in chat, because they will have interpreted this as you promoting the RMT service. So saying "oh yeah, I bought some Chaos for real money, my bad" is just - in their eyes - adding to the list of 'crimes' you're guilty of. It's just an aggravating factor that does far more damage than good. If at any point you tried clarifying you didn't actually RMT and that this had been a lie, your credibility will have sunk to zero in their eyes (and, tbh, rightfully so). Once you started off with that lie - as damaging and likely fatal to any appeals though it may have been - you essentially became married to it. Showing remorse and changing your story are mutually exclusive; you don't get to try attempting both. It's also just exhausting to deal with people who can't get their stories straight... |

" I said an RMT site name, and it was in a DM. besides the point, They have people RMTing without any punishment. They need to punish them. I don't care about getting unbanned I already spent more on packs, sure I won't have my badge for early access poe but who cares. They need to ban him. They are banning some people for RMT but not all. It's bullshit that life is already to the point where money stops you from getting punished, now its in games too. 1+ to OP.
this is true, justice is selective. I made a couple of tests, once/twice you write an inappropriate text on the global chat and you get muted for 10 minutes or the worst case scenario ban. But text of a sexual nature is allowed, and RNG. They probably have some share of it. Last edited by Vladimori#5755 on May 14, 2025, 8:53:31 AM

" Path of Exile 1 has more chat channels than Grinding Gear Games has employees. Chat moderation is not a function of paid staff monitoring all channels at all hours of the day so that they can proactively moderate comments. In-game chat moderation in Path of Exile (and tbh all games) is report-driven. This will never be an exact science; some messages will be reported dozens of times; others will slip through the cracks. At times there'll be a significant queue and so - while Grinding Gear Games will be actioning people, they'll be doing so relatively late and a given discussion may have already ended before a moderator is ready to do something to end it prematurely - so any temporary mutes that get handed-out after the fact may not be obvious to onlookers. |

" xd My guy, there's literally zero legitimate reasons to mention an rmt site's name in a dm. Ban well deserved. |

lol in what context would an rmt site ever come up in-game, and it NOT be about discussing rmt transactions in some way shape or form?
And for the record, many (if not most) of those "accounts" that you think go unpunished for pushing this stuff in-game DO REGULARLY GET BANNED. The problem is they are bot accounts that can instantly pop right back up seconds later. You think you are getting disproportionately punished but that's not true....you just happened to get caught. Think about speeding tickets: there are TONS of drivers who speed and never ever get a ticket. But plenty still do. You literally cannot catch everyone. But that person driving 90 in a 25? Far more likely to get picked up and slapped with a massive ticket than a person going 60 in a 55. Same with someone openly discussing rmt AND linking it in-game. Then, keeping with the speeding metaphor, what happens when you have someone who speeds ONLY when they are sure there aren't any cops around? Similarly, people who REALLY want to RMT go through every possible hoop to avoid detection. If GGG can't detect it, they can't do anything about it. It is what it is. They take very seriously the things they CAN detect. Starting anew....with PoE 2 Last edited by cowmoo275#3095 on May 20, 2025, 2:29:32 PM
