The game's current state discourages defensive play

GGG needs to strike a better balance between allowing Glass Cannons to dominate and inordinately punishing any build that takes more than .4s to kill whatever is on the screen.

I want to play Thorns as an Acolyte of Chayula. I don't want nor expect to have record clear times, but the status quo isn't acceptable for slower builds.

I have found that es is the only way.
I have 9.5k es using the unique cowards belt where you count as low life at 75%, it works great with resurgence omen. Only problem is that damage is garbage because so much had to go into building es and deffences. 20k dps is not supposed to be acceptable on a lvl 90 character but I felt like I needed to build 90% deffence and 10% attack. There is a problem with deffence

I have great defences and good dps. I'm not one-shotting bosses in a second but neither will all the skills that do this league when the next league starts.
Leagues are irrelevant to this discussion. The game as a whole with it's current design disfavors defensive play.

Yes, that's exactly what I'm promoting as well. We have dodge, block and parry, but in endgame with 50+ ultra fast enemies, you want to clear these critters as fast as possible or you walk around with 10k ES in order to survive for a few seconds. That's quite like PoE1, because there building ultra-fast-mega-clearspeed characters was key to win endgame. We have the same in PoE2 right now, which is sad. All these defensive mechanics are wasted in endgame.
They really need to make reward scale with difficulty

At the moment the way to play for drops is via discord, buying easy maps with quant and rarity modifiers and quant tablets

The game they wanted to make is there, but we're discouraged from playing it
At the same moment, Mathil just destroy all boss and mobs with a thorns build :D
