Option to hide the rare mob tracking in maps
Overall, I'm really enjoying the new patch and all the quick changes you're making, but I wanted to share some feedback about mapping.
Hey, I know the new rare tracking icons on the map are a temporary fix, but could we please have an option to disable them? I've been wondering why mapping feels weird this patch, and I think this is the reason. I no longer feel like I'm clearing the map — i.e., entering the map and thinking about the most optimal route/path so that I don't miss anything. Now that I can see where all the rares are, I'm incentivized to run straight to them, and it feels like the game hands me the path that I should take. It seems like a good thing at first, but for me, this has killed the pathfinding/exploration minigame in the maps. It might seem like a minor thing, but I actually believe it's a major part of mapping. Previously, it felt like the objective of the map was to organically clear it, and only if you happened to miss a rare did you realize that the technical objective is to kill all rares. Now, I'm constantly aware that I need to kill all the rares, which I feel devalues the rest of the map's content. TL;DR: Rare tracking makes mapping feel worse. Could we please have an option to disable it? Thank you, GGG! Last bumped on Apr 26, 2025, 10:18:51 AM

I agree it does suck some of the fun out of the endgame and makes it way too obvious where you are supposed to go. They should get rid of it and find a better solution to the original problem of straggler rare enemies and map layouts that lead to them existing. The current setup takes me back to Diablo II maphack days and doesn't sit right. Might as well just give me the whole map at this rate

put a boss in every map like it used to be, killing all rares can be a bonus objective
also they should give some little currency or other reward for completion |

With the addition of checkpoints, I wouldn't even mind the previous implementation where you would only see the final few rares.
Currently, I find myself getting frustrated when I don't immediately find the boss or a missing ritual altar after killing all the rares. This is where we can easily get baited into thinking that they, too, should be visible at all times. I think this whole situation is unironically the "You think you do (want to see all rares), but you don't." Clearing the map is a macro skill, and having those annoying stragglers left was the lose condition — although it was probably a bit too punishing before. |

Not really sure... Often I get maps where even if you can see where the rares are, there's no direct path to it.
Or I am "lucky" and get paths where I can reach that rare by taking a loop or a weird maze... And snot sure if bosses are bugged. Some that are spawning (like the skeleton colossus that needs to come out from the ground first) arent visible on the map and often just running like an idiot until I find that tiny pixel that wasn't the end of the map, but a tiny corridor that leads to the arena... |

Rare tracking makes mapping feels WAY BETTER when the completion is to kill every rares.
It's not even close. No backtracking. No need to use a GPS to find your location. POE mapping should never be a labyrinth game where you need to backtrack every single time you open a map. |
