QOL tweaks for Banners / Tactician / The Fallen Formation
I've been playing a triple banner + artillery ballista build this league and to be honest I've been finding it pretty enjoyable overall; it's my first time trying to take a build to T16+ without following any guides, and while I'm still around T12, it's been feeling pretty solid. The thing though is it feels like there's a lot of power gated behind a certain amount of jankiness. Yes, I get to ignore elemental resists altogether because my banners give +182% to resists, but making sure I never run out takes up a lot of mindshare. Obviously I'd love for there to be buffs like the ability to get increased banner placement speed or the ability to place multiple banners simultaneously, but there are a couple smaller changes that I think would go a long way towards making banners feel better:
1) If you combine Whoever Pays Best with The Fallen Formation, you can place the same banner again while it is already placed in order to refresh the duration. This is a nice ability to have. What is not nice, however, is that if you use the skill in rapid succession, it will actually cancel itself and you won't actually place the banner until you stop mashing. Similarly, if you attempt to place two different banners back-to-back and do it too quickly, the second banner will cancel the first one's placement. Making it so that banner placement cannot cancel banner placement would make the process of dumping all your banners a lot more reliable. (It should still be possible to cancel banner placement with other things like dodge rolls, of course.) 2) Normally, if you bind a skill to only one of your two weapons and you use it when you have the other weapon equipped, you will automatically perform a weapon swap before using the skill. This helps alternating between skills bound to different weapon sets feel more fluid. Banners are also similar to totems in that they snapshot your stats at the time of creation; this makes it tempting to use banners with weapon swapping. The idea is that you build up valor on your banner, place it, and then swap weapons to a set that doesn't have the banner enabled; the banner continues to exist when you do this, but you have now freed up the spirit reservation for that banner to spend on something else. This part works. What doesn't work is that if you use The Fallen Formation to set your valor to max, you cannot start from the other weapon and press the banner button to auto-swap before placing the banner; instead, you have to manually swap weapons (or auto-swap using a different skill), at which point you can immediately place the banner. This is weird, because the skill icon will still report that the banner on the other weapon has max valor, so you *should* be able to place it, but the skill is grayed out. Fixing this would make weapon swap banners feel a lot smoother. Last bumped on Apr 25, 2025, 2:32:51 AM
