Wind Skills Hard Line, and Unarmed Improvements
Currently there isn't much combo potential between spears and quarterstaves, especially when it comes to wind themed abilities. Currently, most duration spear skills (storm lance, spear field) could be used before doing a switch to quarterstaves for some sort of payoff, but the relationship of damage is heavily weighted on the quarterstaff.
While slightly understandable, you can't build combo with a spear to try and drop a tempest bell. You can't staggering palm and translate to a spear. The best you get is setting up a whirlwind for easy blind until you move out of it. From what I heard people use shattering palm for the debuff on other weapons. Some improvements could be to allow staggering palm and its buff to deal extra elemental while standing in an elementally infused whirlwind. Allow wind blast or vaulting impact to consume whirlwinds for added damage. Provide supports to make whirlwinds from dazed enemies or heavily stunned enemies, and maybe even supports to consume them. Perhaps even supports for whirlwind skills to let them benefit from other ground types like jagged, consecrated, or spread existing gas/oil. --- The other issue I'm finding is unarmed skills can't be used unless you have a quarterstaff, or no weapon at all in your weapon swap. Iirc Rory talked about claws potentially being unarmed damage, but for now unarmed benefits much like shield skills or spells on gem level, and largely fills utility setup/buff roles. It could be more interesting for these skills, if an offhand implement similar to a quiver, such as a bangle/prayer beads/rosary/sheathe/claw could provide these skills and have stats that could benefit them. Like the buckler, you could potentially palm strike with your offhand no matter what one handed weapon you add to the game, and more basetypes could be added. To maintain the power of the quarterstaff, just make it to where you can equip these much like a quiver, and like sceptres it could be held in the main hand with a shield or buckler for parry or resonating shield builds. What could potentially be done further, is pull brew concoction off of pathfinder, provide them all as bangle basetypes that could roll flask stats, and do a new node for pathfinder increasing the effectiveness of non-shield offhands and alter the hyper specific quiver nodes in the tree to follow suit. Pathfinder could then benefit from 2 concoctions this way so long as they put them in both weapon swaps. Dance With Death keystone could still function, but maybe suppress or reduce the mods on bangles. You could add marauder flavored ones like chainhook or a hefty punch for poe 1 facebreaker lovers. Currently, lots of people just transition into combat frenzy if they want frenzy or power charges, but this could potentially allow said generation, the only hitch would be justifying the use of these over shield stats and block. --- Edit: The mutual exclusivity for main hand slots to fully leverage a build is becoming increasingly apparent as more are added, and jamming sceptres into a build can burden your skill slots with different spirit skills. The addition of bucklers has shown that the offhand slot could have just as many impactful options as weapons.
