POE2 light stun mechanic change proposal

POE2 light stuns are independent random events with the probability of stun equal to "hit damage received divided by player stun threshold", with a cut-off once the probability drops lower than 10%.

The stun threshold is just the player's max life, plus any extra stun thresholds added by items and passives, etc.

----

This implementation means that no matter what kind of hits you are taking, as long as the damage is at least 10% of your stun threshold, eventually you WILL get stunned by one of those hits.

And since all hits are independent events, it follows that the more hits you take, the more you will be stunned.

This, I think, is the source of people feeling like the game keeps stunlocking them. It's because the game keeps throwing swarms at us, that means more hits, and more hits means more stuns.

Even if we consider hits that do only 10% of our stun threshold, by the 4th hit, there's a 33% chance that we will be stunned.

Yes the hit itself is 10% chance to stun, but the chance of beint hit 4 times and all 4 hits not stunning, is only 66%.

And this manifests in the form of every swarm of mobs seem to be able to always stun you at least once or twice. This prompts players to adopt the one-button screen-clear builds, because anything that requires players to take hits, plays clunky and frustrating due to the frequent stuns.

----

I would propose adding a more visible and clear stun protection, in the form of raising the cut-off point for stuns.

For example, change the rune that gives stun threshold into giving +10%/20%/30% to the cut-off point of light stun chances.

So with 1 lesser stone rune slotted, light stun hits will have to have done damage of at least 10%+10%=20% of player stun threshold.

At max, i.e. +90% to the cut-off point, the player becomes immune to light stuns, but obviously the tradeoff is that it occupies 3 sockets on gear.

----

Or, if light stuns just absolutely needs to be a thing, limit the cut-off point to at most 50% or 60%.

This would eliminiate a lot of the stun-lock feeling, while still allowing light-stuns to happen.

This would also add another aspect to consider in the gearing game.
