PoE2 0.1.0 had a player peak of 578,562.
PoE2 0.2.0 had a player peak of 246,354.
Going from 578,562 to 246,354 is a loss of 332,208 (59%).

I get where you're going but 0.1.0 was basically a totally new game and there were many players who didn't play PoE1 or are even new to ARPG. It's quite normal for them to decide that they just don't like the game or it's not their genre.

Now if 0.3 drops in the same way then we're in trouble.

I don't think Mark is fooling himself, in the interview he almost tried to shotgun the answers to not have jonathan embarrass himself any further than he already has. Everyone knows he does not play the game and has no idea wtf is going on in the game, he is like that child screaming he is not getting his way because he knows better (he does not).

Poe2 went viral because of all the content creators and the following poe1 players. They way it was announced to the poe1 community vs what we got was a massive slap in the face. This is a one time play through game. It is not worth the amount of time it takes to get to endgame. Each season is about endgame not spending countless hours replaying the same exact story. Even Jonathan said he does not intend for players to make more then one character each season just proves it's way to long.

Number of peak players dropped off significantly but I don't think that's an issue. People who have never played an arpg were tempted to try it and many have probably decided its not for them.

I was hesitant to try 0.2 as well after the 0.1 experience but after these recent patches I decided to jump in and cut Phrecia short because I'm actually having fun.

Game will get balanced in time and I have no doubts it will be a success for GGG...if they don't go down the 'souls-like' route and expect 3 button combos for every single white mob.

alot of people are playing because there isnt anything else new out at the moment. lets see how the numbers look after last epoch drops their patch and no rest for the wicked drops theres. numbers i think will be a much different story.

I will copy paste this into my signature and use it often. People fail to understand different games accomplishing different things. I played phrecia and I was even more sure I never wanna touch PoE1 again. I watch people playing PoE1 and I think "this game has so much cool things but the gameplay is a joke". That is my opinion. Nothing wrong with preferring poe1. But poe2 is not for you and that is all.

I think poe2 should be renamed to something else to mitigate people not being able to understand it's a separate new game with a separate audience. And I think poe1 should resume updates ASAP because those players were left behind by GGG. Both of these would help a lot and allow us to move on with separate audiences and less people forcing poe1 mentality into poe2.
